Leading suppliers of Building and Plumbing supplies along with Civil engineering supplies. Maurice never married.

On March 1st 1935 Maurice Markovitz bought the present Commercial Road premises, from Tideswell and Millers Dale Coal and General Merchants Company Ltd for £1200. This meant that Maurice was now able to branch out into supplying building materials. His nephew Brian joined him at Commercial Road in 1953 further developing the business. In 1995 Brian re-located to larger premises on Richard Lane in

Tideswell. The Commercial Road premises were converted into our Courtyard Studios, which include a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom showroom as well as a Stove and Cooker Centre. Since then, Brian's two sons David and Robert have taken over the business, and developed it further to now include a showroom in Chesterfield and six more depots based in Hadfield, Darley Dale, Buxton, Leek, Clay Cross and Carrington. From humble beginnings the company now employs around 200 people. The company prides itself in remaining a family run business, which we are sure Maurice would be proud of.

Here at M Markovitz Ltd we are not only a builders’ and plumbers’ merchant, we offer so much more. We also supply civils, electrical equipment, timber, roofing, stoves and cookers, kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. We also have our very own restaurant, The Merchant's Yard which is located in the original builders merchants building. Whilst we cater for the professional builder and plumber we also supply to the DIY-er and retail public. All our outlets are very customer friendly and a warm welcome is always waiting. We keep lots of stock which enables us to satisfy our customers' needs and of course we deliver locally, free of charge. Our vehicles are travelling daily throughout the High Peak, Sheffield, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, Nottingham, Leek, Staffordshire, Greater Manchester and beyond. We have dedicated showrooms located at Tideswell and Chesterfield. In our showrooms you will find extensive displays of kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms in an array of different styles from very traditional to ultra modern. We also have a dedicated “working” Stove and Cooker Centre in Tideswell with over 40 stoves and 10 cookers on display, some plumbed and fitted so you can actually see them working. We stock fireplaces and fireplace accessories, a comprehensive range of cookware and kitchen equipment and much more. Our Leek branch also incorporates a stove and cooker showroom with working appliances and many displays. We have our own trained dedicated teams, so all you have to do is pick the stove or range you desire and we will do the rest.
