One window is 'opened' each day from 1 December to Christmas Eve & remain illuminated until & inc. 1st January. Rowlands Castle Living Advent is having a lull year and hopefully will be back for some festive fun in 2023! Trying to find something positive for the community in the Covid affected Christmas of 2020, it inspired us to create a ‘Living Advent Calendar’ for Rowlands Castle. A free*, outd
oor event for the whole community. Set aside the chocolate and take your Advent calendar experience to the next level with a Living Advent Calendar! This will be a free* event for all and a map of all 24 'windows' will be available online at the end of November on this page and on the Rowlands Castle Association (RCA) website. (www.rowlandscastle.com)
Villagers can then wander round the living advent calendar trail outside, safely, at their leisure, throughout the whole month. Please adhere to the latest Government guidelines for social distancing and meeting outdoors. Participating households/churches/shops can choose the day they wish to start (first-come first-served though) and the theme of their window. However, it is important to clearly include the Advent Window Date in the design of your window. The window does not have to be religious but should have a festive feel. It needs to be clearly and safely visible from a pavement/footpath. It can be an upstairs window and needs to be well-lit, the more colourful/brighter the better. The aim is for each window to be a surprise on the day it's revealed. If you Google 'Advent windows' or have a look at the photos of last years creations on this page, you can find a wide range of ideas & ways that people have decorated their windows. We would like to include windows throughout the whole village and hope to show photos of the windows on the page to spread the Christmas joy. In order to ensure everyone knows their 'date window' in good time to plan and to create the map, we need to fill all 24 dates by 24th November. If we get more than 24 entries, we can 'open' more than one window on some dates, perhaps even have two calendars if we reach 48! So if you:
- live in a house that has a window that can clearly be seen safely from the street without people coming onto your property
- are happy to keep the window illuminated each evening between 5pm-9pm after the day it is 'opened' up until & including 1st January 2022 and
- wish to participate
Please email [email protected] the following details:
- your name & address
- your email address and
- preference on which 'window date' between 1st and 24th Dec (first-come, first-served)
Please be aware that in agreeing to participate, you are also agreeing to have your address identified on the map so people can look for your window. We look forward to hearing from you by Wed 24th November 2021. Best wishes,
Matt & Lorna
