This week tested us in a way I wouldn’t wish on any small business.
We experienced a Major electrical failure — a power phase change (lost neutral) which loaded the workshop with 3 Phase — and it caused serious damage across our office. (360v to 415V)
Half of our printers were taken out. Rooms filled with smoke, an extremely scary experience in the early hours of the morning. Likely saved only by our demand, which meant i was still in the workshop finishing off some projects.
Along with several other electronic assets we rely on day to day. It’s been disruptive, frustrating, and honestly a bit gutting to see things we’ve built and invested in get hit like that, all at once.
But as hard as it’s been, I’m walking away from this week with one overwhelming feeling: gratitude.
I’m grateful for our team — for the calm heads, the problem-solving, the late hours, and the sheer resilience. No one panicked. No one pointed fingers. People just stepped in, improvised, and kept the wheels turning. Watching that in real time reminded me why I’m so proud to build this business with the people we have.
I’m also grateful for the community around us. To everyone who messaged, called, offered advice, recommended specialists, loaned equipment, or simply asked “Are you okay?” — thank you. Those gestures mattered more than you probably realise. When something goes wrong behind the scenes, it’s easy to feel isolated. Your support made it feel shared, and that makes it lighter.
We’ve learned a lot this week — about risk, about safeguards we should have had in place, and about how quickly operational “normal” can change. We’re already taking steps to rebuild smarter, add protections, and reduce the chances of this happening again even though the chances are extremely low.
Challenges like these are a stark reminder that business is never just about systems and assets — it’s about people, perseverance, and the communities we lean on when things go sideways.
We’re still cleaning up and replacing what’s been lost, but we’re moving forward. Tired, Yes. Wiser, Definitely. And genuinely stronger than we were a week ago.
If you’ve been through something similar and have hard-earned lessons or recommendations, I'm all ears.
