Est: 23rd September 1924 Prescotts Architectural Ironmongers Ltd was originally founded on 23th September 1924 in Church Street, St Helens under our original name of PR Prescotts after our founder Percival Ronald Prescott. The company then moved to Bridge Street due to compulsory purchase to build the Mark and Spencer’s store on the original site, and then in 1966 we moved to our current premises
in Westfield Street, yet again due to compulsory purchase as the town centre was re-developed. Sadly Percy as he was fondly called by his customers never made the move to the Westfield Street premises as he was taken ill and passed away just after the move. Still now the company is fondly known to quite a few of its customers as Percy Prescotts. The company grew under the banner of Prescotts, being run by Roy and Alan Prescott the sons of Percy who built up the business into its strong position. As we grew through the years we moved with the times and the companies name was changed to Prescotts Architectural Ironmongers Ltd on 27th April 2000,as the focus of the company had changed due to increase in demand on the construction and maintenance product supply side. The name change co-insided with change in the ownership, the sons of Roy who retired and Alan who had sadly passed away took over the reins, now Alan and his cousin Colin are running the business. Our current client base is very diverse as we supply, Local authorities, Housing Trusts, Construction and maintenance companies, House buiders, developers. We are also involved from the design stage working with Architects, Building surveyors, Developers and interior designers due to the complex nature of the ironmongery industry they use us as a specifiers guide. Our largest single project was the rebuild at St Helens College with the supply of over three hundred door sets, from door closers to door stops the complete ironmongery package.
