🔥 Are you burning through your logs too quickly?
One thing I get asked regularly at Greenwood Building Supplies is how to get a longer burn from a log burner.
I often find people are putting too much fuel on, or refuelling more often than they need to.
Here's how I run mine. 👇
🔥 First, I get the fire going properly and bring the stove and chimney up to operating temperature.
🪵 Once I've got a good bed of glowing embers, I add one log and let it do its thing.
The smaller log shown in the video gives me at least an hour of burning, while bigger logs can last around two hours.
I keep the fire at a steady, comfortable temperature rather than having it roaring away.
I only refuel when the previous log has nearly burnt down to embers. If the ember bed is getting weak, I'll use smaller pieces of wood to help get the next log burning.
Oak or birch? Both are excellent choices, but oak gets my vote for its longer burn.
Of course, every stove is different, so always follow the manufacturer's guidance on fuel loads and airflow.
