​The Clayton Spearpoint featuring Desert Ironwood scales is officially back in the Made to Order section of the website.

This model pays homage to a design originally crafted by Graham Clayton. With its sleek spearpoint blade geometry and balanced ergonomics, it’s a pattern built for both daily utility and lasting heritage. Each piece is built by hand right here in Sheffield.

This month marks a decade since I decided to go fully self-employed and start Michael May Knives.

Anyone who works for themselves knows the reality: you don’t just clock off at 5 PM. It’s hard graft, but the creative freedoms make every single minute worth it.

Over the years, I've had the absolute privilege of:

Being part of amazing projects and exhibitions

Making knives for musical heroes, artists, and even a Hollywood film

We’ve navigated a pandemic, Brexit, and a cost-of-living crisis along the way... but we’re still here, and still creating. So here’s to another 10 years!

A massive thank you to everyone who has bought a knife over the years. Each one carries a piece of Sheffield’s proud history and helps keep our local tradition alive.

Spalted Beach!

Whilst in Devon recently my family went to visit Hartland Abbey where they filmed Mallory Towers - a favourite of my daughter. I came across this piece of driftwood on the very rocky beach there. It looked like there was some spalting running through it so I thought I'd bring it back to Sheffield and see if I could us it for knife scales...
