Sir Mark Tami MP, Labour MP for Alyn and Deeside recently visited at our construction product manufacturing site in Shotton, North Wales. Mark was able to witness the manufacturing of our wide product range including building envelope and structural steel solutions. Central to the discussions were how Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel, from our steel making centre in Port Talbot, is set to transform not just Building Systems UKโ€™s product portfolio, but the whole UK construction sector from a carbon performance perspective.

๐Ÿš› Work is driving forwards at Volvo's new ยฃ6m commercial vehicle service and testing facility in Boroughbridge. This project will utilise over 2,000mยฒ of Trisometยฎ and Trimapanelยฎ insulated roof and wall panels. The completed project will include a workshop area for the servicing and repair of heavy goods vehicles, buses, refuse trucks and emergency vehicles, as well as a reception area, offices, parts storage and welfare facilities.

This week Building Systems UK wrapped up the year by thanking everyone across the organisation for their hard work throughout 2025 - so as the year comes to a close, weโ€™d also like to thank all our customers, suppliers and stakeholders a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Edwin Richards from , a Tata Steel enterprise, presented at talking about โ€˜Lower Carbon Futures for steelโ€™ within the built environment. Presenting with Dave Taylor of Tata Steel, they covered how Tata Steelโ€™s ยฃ1.2bn investment in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel making technology in Port Talbot will reduce the embodied carbon of steel in construction products by over 60% from 2028.

A key feature of the presentation was how the design of construction products, systems and buildings, affects the total CO2 impact of an asset over its whole life cycle. The presentation also saw the launch of Trisofixยฎ โ€“ a simple to use, patented, universal steel mounting system for use in the construction sector. Trisofixยฎ enables wall panels to be mounted, and then demounted (for building adaptation) and refitted with a simple push fit. Trisofixยฎ also creates a convenient accessible services cavity for M&E all of which reduces cost and waste. The presentation used Trisofixยฎ as an innovative example of a new steel solution that can enable buildings to be adapted, at low cost with reduced waste and CO2 impact.

The launch of this exciting new solution was timed to coincide with UK Metals Expo and represents an important part of Building Systems UK efforts to help increase building resilience and shape the future of sustainable buildings.

On 1st July 2025, the BCSA - British Constructional Steelwork Association Technical Specification for Boundary Elevations came into effect.

Through our long standing relationship with the BCSA, has been part of the development of the new BCSA technical specification for โ€˜boundaryโ€™ elevations.

Below is a summary of what this document covers.

Scope:
It covers primary frame, secondary steelwork (side rails & purlins), and external wall cladding.

Objective:
To ensure a robust load path in fire conditions so fire-resistant cladding remains supported.

Engineered Concept:
That cladding is hung from protected structural support (i.e. โ€˜Capable memberโ€™) - no reliance on unprotected secondary steelwork.

This design change requires careful coordination by the Principal Designer during the development of the steelwork package. This will inevitably add cost and increase the carbon footprint of steel frame designs located within boundary distances. However, Building Systems UK has developed robust engineering methodologies for the integration of capable members, combined with efficient cladding connection designs, to minimise this impact.
