During last week’s Steel Making Transition Day at Port Talbot we spoke with Ellen Willis, Head of Sustainability at Chetwoods Architects.

Ellen highlights the importance of sustainability for their organisation and how Electric Arc Furnace generated steel will provide monumental environmental and sustainability benefits backed up by all the required data throughout the supply chain – which is key for future projects.

Ellen also said “We can see that this is a commitment to sustainability, but also a commitment to industry and to continuing that sort of greatness and making wonderful products".

Here IainMc Burnie from talks about AECOM’s ScopeX, an initiative within AECOM to accelerate carbon reduction of infrastructure design, part of which reviews scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions within their supply chains and how their emission output will be reviewed as part of the programme and must align with AECOMs ESG sustainability credentials for future project consideration and specification.

This was an insightful visit for Iain by showcasing Tata Steel UK’s low-carbon steel future and how EAF output will bring ’s structural and building envelope products in line with their supply chain requirements.

During last week’s Port Talbot Steel Making Transition Day, ’s Managing Director, Jo Evans talks about how Tata Steel UK’s investment and revolutionary transition into Electric Arc Furnace generated steel will bring much needed low embodied carbon steel products directly into specifiers construction projects - a first in the UK.

Jo also goes on to say how this directly benefits Building Systems UK as an integrated construction products provider within Tata Steel UK - as well as our customers.

On Monday this week we hosted Samantha Dixon, MP, Minister for Building Safety, Fire and Democracy to discuss the Construction Products Reform White Paper consultation which closed on Wednesday 20th. The minister also took the opportunity to tour the considerable manufacturing facilities on our Shotton site.

Sir Mark Tami MP, Labour MP for Alyn and Deeside recently visited at our construction product manufacturing site in Shotton, North Wales. Mark was able to witness the manufacturing of our wide product range including building envelope and structural steel solutions. Central to the discussions were how Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel, from our steel making centre in Port Talbot, is set to transform not just Building Systems UK’s product portfolio, but the whole UK construction sector from a carbon performance perspective.

🚛 Work is driving forwards at Volvo's new £6m commercial vehicle service and testing facility in Boroughbridge. This project will utilise over 2,000m² of Trisomet® and Trimapanel® insulated roof and wall panels. The completed project will include a workshop area for the servicing and repair of heavy goods vehicles, buses, refuse trucks and emergency vehicles, as well as a reception area, offices, parts storage and welfare facilities.

This week Building Systems UK wrapped up the year by thanking everyone across the organisation for their hard work throughout 2025 - so as the year comes to a close, we’d also like to thank all our customers, suppliers and stakeholders a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Our last working day is tomorrow and we will be returning on Monday 5th January 2026.

🏗️ Extensive refurbishments are now underway with a new roof being installed by using the Trisomet® insulated roof panel system from Building Systems UK. Also, fresh roof lights will be installed providing a much brighter environment internally. 🌟
