We are proud to celebrate the professional development achievements of our colleagues at O.C.O, alongside those who have chosen to grow their careers with us.

Considering O.C.O is still a relatively young business; many of our colleagues have been part of our journey since we began in 2010, helping shape the business into what it is today through their commitment, loyalty, and hard work.

Congratulations to Alicia, who has completed her CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate, and Charmaine, who achieved a distinction in her Level 3 Team Leader apprenticeship and recognised as Apprentice of the Month by Activate Learning—fantastic accomplishments alongside their full-time roles.

Alicia’s story

Alicia is a valued member of our HR team, and her role extends far beyond policies and procedures. She plays an important part in supporting colleague wellbeing, attracting new talent, and helping people thrive across the business. After moving from Site Administration into an HR Administrator role, Alicia developed strong practical experience and chose to further strengthen her knowledge by completing her CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate with ICS Learn,

Charmaine’s Story

Charmaine leads the Quality Control team at our Avonmouth plant. She has progressed from Quality Control Technician to Quality Control Supervisor and now plays a key role in supporting her colleagues. Balancing her apprenticeship alongside a full-time role and personal commitments has not always been easy but she has shown real determination, supported throughout by her tutor at Activate Learning and recognised as Apprentice of the Month for her resilience to keep going. The programme has helped her build new leadership skills and strengthen the support she provides to her team.

Supporting Career Growth at O.C.O

At O.C.O, we actively support colleagues to develop their skills through professional qualifications, apprenticeships, and ongoing learning opportunities. This includes dedicated study time during working hours, alongside encouragement and support throughout the learning journey. By investing in our people, we are not only supporting individual growth but also strengthening the long-term future of our business with confident teams who help drive success.

When asked what advice they would give to colleagues considering professional development, Alicia said: “Be honest—think about whether the course will support your current role and help you progress. If the answer is yes, then go for it.”

Charmaine added: “It really helps you build new leadership skills and with the support from the tutors, you realise anything is possible.”

Well done to you both.

This Earth Day, the global theme Our Power, Our Planet is a reminder that real climate progress comes from action, and for us at O.C.O that action means turning waste into a solution.
We believe the built environment can be part of the climate solution – starting with the materials we choose and the waste we refuse to ignore. Every year, vast amounts of waste are sent to landfill, whilst construction materials continue to carry a high carbon footprint. Through our Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) we divert waste from landfill and by permanently locking CO₂ into our carbon neutral aggregate, we help reduce the footprint of the materials the world depends on.
By accelerating a natural mineralisation reaction, O.C.O delivers permanent carbon removal, verified through carbon credits and embedded directly into the built
environment. The result is:
• lower-carbon construction,
• reduced reliance on virgin materials
• practical progress toward net zero.

Because protecting our planet isn’t a future ambition – it’s something we build today!

✨ Great day at the Skanska UK Open Doors event in Norfolk last Friday!

O.C.O joined Rory J Holbrook Ltd at the Thickthorn site, meeting students and local businesses to showcase the A47/A11 Improvement Scheme and careers in construction.

We’re proud to support the project by supplying sustainable Aggregate, produced using our ACT technology and transported from the Wretham site to help build temporary works and site access.

The scheme aims to cut traffic congestion at the Thickthorn Roundabout by up to 80%, diverting around 12,000 vehicles daily once complete.

Great to be part of a project shaping Norfolk’s future infrastructure!

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and reaffirm O.C.O’s commitment to building a more inclusive, gender-balanced workplace.

As a technology-driven organisation producing sustainable aggregate through carbon capture, many of our roles sit within engineering and operational environments traditionally associated with heavy industry. At O.C.O, however, opportunity isn’t defined by gender. Strength comes from intelligence, resilience, and the unique perspective every individual brings.

Our CEO, Steve Greig, shared:
“We want more women to recognise O.C.O as a place where they can grow, lead and succeed. By expanding flexible working options and removing barriers, we’re ensuring opportunity is open to everyone.”

We’re proud to support more women entering engineering and sustainability — because diverse teams drive innovation and create stronger, more dynamic workplaces for all.

Together, we can build a more inclusive future at O.C.O. 💙

We were thrilled to open our doors again at O.C.O Technology Leeds last week to welcome a fantastic group of students and faculty from the University of Hull for a full site tour!

As we push forward into 2026, it is more important than ever to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application. Our Leeds facility—now operating at its highest capacity ever—is the perfect place to see the circular economy in action.

The students got a firsthand look at our Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT), which permanently captures CO₂ and transforms thermal residues into carbon-negative Manufactured LimeStone (M-LS). We discussed everything from our record-breaking safety milestones (reaching 1,092 days LTI-free just last month!), the history of our unique business to our recent successes of The Kings Award For Enterprise; Sustainability Development.

It was inspiring to hear their questions and see their passion for decarbonising the construction industry. At O.C.O, we believe that collaboration with regional universities like Hull is key to driving the innovations needed for a greener future.

Thanks for visiting, Hull! We can't wait to see how you’ll use these insights to shape the future of engineering. 🎓✨

O.C.O are very pleased to announce that as of a couple of weeks ago, our site in Leeds had reached 1,092 days since the last Lost Time Injury, passing the previous record of 1,091 days!

Lee Cheetham, Site Manager at Leeds, said ‘Reaching the milestone of 1,092 days for zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI) is a remarkable achievement that reflects the team's unwavering commitment to health and safety in challenging environments. This accomplishment is not just about a number; it represents a proactive mindset and a collective responsibility to look out for one another so that everyone goes home safe at the end of every day and underpins O.C.O's safety culture.
By prioritising safety over other operational goals and consistently identifying hazards before incidents occur, we have demonstrated that "Goal Zero" is a reachable reality. I am incredibly proud of the dedication shown by every employee and contractor on this site, and I encourage the team to stay vigilant and maintain this momentum without letting complacency set in.’

Well done to everybody at our Leeds site, this is a huge achievement! All staff were rewarded with breakfasts or pizza, shift dependent, to thank them for their hard work and dedication!
