Hillhouse Quarry Group is looking to recruit a Concrete Plant Supervisor to join our growing team at our concrete plant within Soutra Mains Quarry.

Reporting to the Operations Manager (Concrete Products), this role is focused on ensuring safe, compliant and efficient production, overseeing batching plant performance and supporting maintenance activities across the site.

Key responsibilities include:

Monitoring batching plant performance to ensure mixes meet specification
Planning and supporting preventative maintenance
Maintaining high housekeeping standards
Analysing plant performance and identifying improvements
Carrying out routine maintenance tasks
Transporting materials around the site
Ensuring full compliance with HSQE requirements

What we’re looking for:

Full UK driving licence (essential)
Experience in a concrete batching plant or manufacturing environment (desirable)
Ability to operate a forklift truck or telehandler (desirable)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Computer literacy and a good understanding of Health & Safety practices
Flexible approach to working hours

Role details:

Full-time, permanent position
40 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with overtime and weekend work as required

This month, Joe Campbell marks an incredible 32 years with Hillhouse Group.

Joe joined the business in 1994 as a trainee steel fixer and has progressed through a wide range of operational and leadership roles over the years, now serving as General Manager – Concrete (West). His career reflects not only his own hard work and commitment, but also the opportunities that exist within the business for people who want to develop and grow.

From precast manufacturing and site installation to leading major operational projects such as our new Glasgow London Road concrete plant, Joe’s experience and contribution to the Group have been significant.

Joe’s story is also one of many across Hillhouse. We are proud to have a large number of long-serving employees throughout the business, with many progressing into senior and leadership roles over the course of their careers. That continuity, experience and loyalty remain a huge part of what makes Hillhouse what it is today.

We’re Hiring: Temporary Class 2 Driver – HIAB Grab Vehicle

Hillhouse Group is currently recruiting a Temporary Class 2 Driver to operate a HIAB Grab vehicle from our Scotts Road depot in Paisley.

Working as part of Hillhouse Group (Contracts) Ltd, the role will involve delivering and removing materials from sites primarily across the central belt of Scotland.

This position requires flexibility to suit operational workload, including weekend working when required.

Requirements:
Valid Class 2 (Category C) licence
Valid Driver CPC
Valid Digital Tachograph card
Previous HIAB Grab driving experience is essential
Good knowledge of EU Drivers’ Hours Rules

Salary:
£15.00 per hour based on a 39-hour basic working week.

Work Location: On the road

We’ve recently strengthened our team at Hillhouse Group with a number of key appointments across both our commercial and operational functions, designed to enhance how we support our customers across Scotland.

Mark Anderson has moved into the role of Commercial Manager – East, bringing over 20 years’ experience and a strong understanding of both operations and commercial delivery. Alongside him, Colin Hume joins as Senior Sales Representative, adding further technical and customer-focused expertise across both the East and West.

Supporting delivery on the ground, Jamie Munro now leads our ready-mix concrete and block production in the East, while John Steel has been appointed General Manager of our precast concrete division in the West, bringing over four decades of experience within the business.

Together, these changes strengthen our ability to provide clear, responsive and reliable support, from initial enquiry through to delivery.

Soutra Mains Quarry

We’ve taken delivery of a Metso HP300 Mobile Cone Crusher at Soutra Quarry, supplied by McHale Plant.

Pictured left to right: David Wylie (McHale Plant), Tommy Burns (Site Production Supervisor), and John Macaulay (Site Manager).

The Metso HP300 is a key part of our wider Soutra expansion, increasing capacity for graded stone production in preparation for our new asphalt plant, scheduled to come online in the second half of 2026.

John MaCaulay, Site Manager at Soutra, said:
“The Metso is exactly the right bit of kit for the job and the guys are genuinely excited to have it on site. Seeing this level of investment coming into Soutra is a real boost for morale and shows the commitment to growing the operation as we expand our activities and continue to develop the business even further.”

We’re Hiring: Multi-Skilled Asphalt Plant Operative

Location: Central Asphalt Plant, Burrowine Moor Quarry, Alloa

Hillhouse Group is looking to recruit a multi-skilled Asphalt Plant Operative to join the team at our Central Asphalt plant at Burrowine Moor Quarry, Alloa.

This role will be split between the integrated plant/weighbridge office and operating a loading shovel, alongside supporting general plant and site maintenance. The successful candidate may also be required to travel to other sites across the Central Belt when required.

Key responsibilities include:
Following asphalt plant start-up and batching processes
Verifying delivery notes against requested material orders
Monitoring stock levels of aggregates, bitumen, limestone filler, fibre and fuel
Completing daily mobile plant inspections and reporting defects
Carrying out sampling and visual inspections of asphalt mixes
Performing basic plant and equipment maintenance
Maintaining good housekeeping standards and participating in SHE meetings
Ensuring all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures are followed

What we’re looking for:
Experience within the asphalt or quarrying industry (essential)
Loading shovel certification would be advantageous, although training can be provided
Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft 365
Good understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental practices
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Full UK driving licence

Reporting to the Quarry Manager, the successful candidate will help ensure safe, compliant and efficient production, operating mobile plant, transporting materials around the site and supporting general maintenance duties. Training will also be provided to operate the static wash plant, additional mobile plant and the weighbridge system.
