⚙️ Getting the grinding wheel back in shape!

Here’s our X5 machine dressing the grinding wheel, squaring it up and restoring the correct shape ready for the next job.

It might not be the most obvious part of the sharpening process, but keeping the grinding wheel in the right condition is an important step in achieving consistent, accurate results. 🪚

Because precision sharpening starts with the right setup - and sometimes, that means making sure the wheel is spot on before the work even begins. 👌

🌳 Chipper Blade Sharpening

These chipper blades are designed for one tough job - shredding tree branches and turning them into woodchip. 🪵

After putting in the work, they come back to us to have their cutting edges restored and sharpened, ready to get back out into the field.

A sharp chipper blade helps keep the machine working efficiently and produces a consistent chip - so keeping the blades in good condition is important when they’re dealing with branches all day. ⚙️

From tree surgery to timber processing, we sharpen the tooling that keeps things moving. 🪚

⚡ Precision work with an EDM

Here’s our Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM) putting new pin holes into a 250mm high-speed blade.

This particular job involves creating a 12mm diameter pin hole, with the accuracy needed to ensure the blade is correctly positioned and ready to perform as it should. 🔧

It might look like a relatively small detail, but when you’re working with tooling of this size, precision matters.

Another example of the specialist work happening behind the scenes at LCT. 🪚

♻️ Oil that’s used again, again and again.

One of our largest machines uses around 200 litres of oil to sharpen our customers blades. ⚙️ And we have eight of them in total – that's a lot of oil!

Instead of throwing away the waste the machines produce, we separate and recover the bi-product, made up of HSS material and oil.

🔧 The HSS waste is collected and recycled
🛢️ The oil is recovered and put back into the machines

It’s all part of making the most of the materials we use and keeping waste to a minimum.

Behind the scenes at LCT, it’s not just about sharpening blades - it’s about finding ways to reuse, recover and recycle wherever we can. ♻️

Our machines need a little TLC too!

We spend our days sharpening and reconditioning tooling, but behind the scenes, our own machines need looking after as well. 🔧

This week, three engineers Gary, Adam and Michael have been busy carrying out servicing and maintenance on our Vollmer CHD 251R2, CHD270, AS810, CP200, CHX1300 and our two Loroch’s K850-M & KSC560-B in the workshop.

Regular servicing helps keep everything running smoothly, accurately and reliably 👍 Thanks to Vollmer for helping us do so.

🛠️ Sharpening the tools. Maintaining the machines. Keeping the workshop moving.

🪚 Tooth Count Explained: Why More Isn’t Always Better

When choosing a saw blade, it’s easy to think more teeth = a better cut.

But that’s not always the case. 👀

The right tooth count depends on what you’re cutting, the material, the machine and the finish you need.

So, before choosing a blade, don’t just count the teeth - consider the job.

The right blade specification can make a big difference to cut quality, cutting speed and blade life. ⚙️

Not sure which tooth count is right for your application? Give us a call - we’re happy to help.
