Supporting the Next Generation of Bricklayers : Windpost Training Aids

When Malc Hancock, Head Tutor at the National Masonry Academy, approached Grayson (GB) Ltd for support with training students in structural windpost installation, our Operations Director Kevin Jagg was only too pleased to help.

Alongside technical literature, toolbox talks, demonstration models and installation videos, Grayson supplied full-sized versions of our innovative Go-Post™ adjustable windpost system, available off the shelf for next-day delivery.

We also provided a range of reusable concrete screw fixings, allowing students to install, remove and reinstall the windposts repeatedly, ensuring the equipment can be used by successive groups of students for many years to come.

What makes this initiative particularly encouraging is that windpost installation isn't currently part of the formal bricklaying curriculum.

However, Malc, Phil and their colleagues at the NMA recognise that structural windposts are a common feature of modern masonry construction and that understanding their correct installation is an important practical skill.

Rather than limiting their teaching to the requirements of the curriculum, the Academy is taking a proactive approach to preparing students for the realities of working on today's construction sites.

It's an approach that deserves recognition and support.

As masonry construction continues to develop, it's important that vocational education evolves alongside it. Manufacturers have a valuable role to play by providing training establishments with access to current products, technical knowledge and practical installation guidance.

At Grayson, we're pleased to contribute to this process and support the excellent work being undertaken by the National Masonry Academy.

🧱 South East Brickwork Subcontractors : This is your opportunity to be heard by NHBC.

On Wednesday, Grayson (GB) Ltd will be supporting the NHBC Brickwork Subcontractor Seminar in Maidstone, and we’d encourage any brickwork subcontractor working on housing projects in the South East to attend.

Good communication between those setting the standards and those working to meet them is absolutely essential.
