The Llanharan & Brynna Wimbles were formed in September 2016, following Richard Hughes arranging a meeting with Keep Wales Tidy, Sarah Liney, Olie Wickes and Maria Thomas. What followed has been truly extraordinary. The group became constituted with a formal committee and a set of dates arranged for community litter picks, Facebook, Twitter accounts all set up to raise awareness and education our community on the damage caused by littering to our planet and wildlife. We're also a group committed to raising awareness of the dangers of dog fouling and fully support the changes being implemented by RCT Council. Our work was made easy by the hundreds of Wimbles (local residents) that have all volunteered to help. Our first community litter pick was held in Llanharan early in February, and it was outstanding over 100 volunteers turned up of varying ages and the litter that was picked along with many illegally dumped items was astounding. We continued promoting the group and it's aims. We've worked closely with Keep Wales Tidy and the Wildlife Trust. The Wildlife Trust has transformed Brynna Woods and it is a pleasure for our group to support them in anyway we can. Our Treasurer Sarah is a Trustee & Primary Carer for the Hedgehog Helpline and admits, sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs before release back to the wild, Sarah is also Trustee of The Welfare Hall & Ground. Our Chair Olie is Trustee of the Cambrian Way, his interests are walking, rescuing chickens, litter picking and rugby, his professional role is walking spaces officer at Ramblers Cymru. David our Secretary is a School Teacher and Cub Scout Leader for the local group, he has am interest in all things environmental and space with his son. In May 2017 we were advised that we had been shortlisted for two awards through the 'Love where you live awards' run by RCTCBC the awards are to recognise individuals and groups who make a difference to our environment across RCT. On Tuesday 4th July we attended an award ceremony and we walked away with 3 awards. http://www.rctcbc.gov.uk/EN/Newsroom/PressReleases/2017/July/LoveWhereYouLive2017%E2%80%93thewinners.aspx
