Really great to pay a little house visit today, get out of the workshop into the lovely Kent countryside and fettle the setup on this Deep Bodied Spruce GTO.
Always enlightening & educational how such small tweaks can produce the desired results..
As the guitar settled into its new surroundings the neck relief had increased ever so slightly, so the tension in the strings changed, especially the bass side.
After straightening the neck (not even an 1/12th of a turn on the truss rod) the feel was back but not quite perfect, still a little slack on the E & A strings.
One of the ways that has always been such a fascinating fine adjustment to the feel of the strings is in the tailpiece height, something I love to dial in when they’re first built and getting setup...
The desired tighter feel to the bass side meant lowering the tailpiece very slightly, gave the bass side that lovely snap, much more fine tuned to the players style. Simple but very noticeable to the overall playability.. guitar notes across the fretboard really sat up straight after. Locking in the tone pros bridge and tailpiece tight after should help retain this super fine tuned setup. Incredible how much it improved the overall feel and response..
