The new Leica CS50 field controller is now available from One Point Survey. Built for surveyors working with Leica Captivate, the CS50 has the processing power to handle larger datasets, CAD files and IFC models without slowing you down on site.

There are some useful additions too, including an integrated Leica DISTO for measuring difficult-to-reach points, physical SIM and eSIM connectivity and an IP66/68-rated design for working in tough site conditions.

It also features a backlit keypad and a compact, one-handed design, making it practical for everyday surveying and setting out work.

If you're looking to upgrade your Leica field controller or want to see how the CS50 compares with your current setup, speak to the team and we'll run through it with you.

We recently headed to the NEC in Birmingham for Highways UK. It was a good chance to see what’s changing across the highways sector, catch up with people in the industry and look at some of the new technology coming through.

With so much of our work tied into surveying, machine control and site technology, events like this are useful for keeping close to what contractors are actually using and asking for.

Plenty to take away from the day.

Machine control doesn’t always need to mean a full 3D setup. For jobs where you’re working to a set level or grade, a 2D system can be a very effective option. On this dozer, the two masts above the blade read from a rotating laser and automatically adjust the blade height to keep the machine on level.

It’s a simple way to improve consistency without adding more technology than the job needs.

If you want to know where 2D machine control makes sense, or how it compares with a 3D setup, get in touch with Adam.

We recently headed over to the Isle of Wight to fit Leica MC1 to a customer’s machine. Adam took care of the install, starting with prepping the machine and removing the panels so we could run the cabling properly.

This machine didn’t have a boxing ring, so we also had to fit the masts before moving onto the arm sensors and wiring everything back into the main body.

Once the hardware was in place, it was a case of fitting the screen, checking everything was working properly and getting the system ready for calibration.

If you’re considering Leica MC1, get in touch and we can talk you through what’s involved in fitting it to your machine.

Being a Leica Geosystems Authorised Distributor and Service Partner means we can support your equipment well beyond the initial purchase. You can come to us for new Leica equipment, hire, demonstrations and advice on the right setup for the work you’re doing.

Then, once the kit is out on site, our Leica authorised service centre can look after calibration, servicing and repairs when needed.

For customers running Leica equipment every day, it means you’ve got one team to speak to for both the equipment and the support behind it.

If you need help with your current Leica kit or you’re looking at something new, give us a call at 0800 633 5131.

For general site levelling, you don’t always need a complicated setup. The Leica Rugby 620 with the Rod Eye 160 receiver gives you a solid option for horizontal levelling, basic slope work and day-to-day use outdoors.

It can handle single-axis slope up to 8%, while the receiver gives you the range and visibility you need when you’re working beyond the laser line itself.

If you’re comparing laser level packages or replacing an older setup, speak to us and we can run through the differences.

Getting machine control working properly on site starts with choosing the right setup for the machine and the job. From there, installation, operator training and ongoing support all help you get the most out of the system.

We can help you select the right Leica setup, install it on the machine, train your team and support the system once it’s working on site.

For contractors running several machines, that also means you’ve got one team to call rather than dealing with different suppliers at each stage.

If you’re looking at a new system, upgrading an existing setup or rolling machine control out across more of your fleet, speak to Adam and the team.

Last week Jamie headed up to the NEC for UK Construction Week. For us, shows like this are useful because they give us a chance to see what’s changing across construction, from new equipment and site technology through to safety, working methods and the challenges contractors are dealing with.

It also gives us a better idea of what’s coming next and where customers may need support.

Leica MC1 is Leica Geosystems’ most advanced 3D machine control software platform, built to bring different machine applications into one consistent system.

It compares the design model with the actual position of the bucket, blade or cutting edge, helping operators work directly to the planned surface.

The big advantage is consistency across site. Excavators, dozers, graders and other machines can all run on the same software platform and design data structure, making training, setup and data handling much simpler across a fleet.

With features such as surface logging, live progress information and Leica ConX integration, MC1 also gives site teams a clearer picture of what’s been completed and what still needs doing.

If you’re looking at 3D machine control or want to see how MC1 could work across your machines, speak to Adam.
