Sustain Wiltshire

Sustain Wiltshire Sustain Wilshire is a radical new approach to the repurposing and reuse of landfill sites to create sustainable energy and heat.

Sustain also aims to form a green-food-super-production centre for the local community through its Super-Midden solution.

This Sunday, our Operations Director Vicky is taking on the London Marathon in support of Wiltshire Air Ambulance 🚁

Following a serious ACL injury in 2024, this is a huge milestone and an incredible effort for a truly life-saving cause.

How We’re Supporting Our Community 🌱

Community is at the heart of everything we do.

We’re proud to have awarded a Β£50,000 grant to the Royal Wootton Bassett Environment Trust at our Conference last year.

This grant will add improvements across Royal Wootton Bassett:
🚲 Safer cycling and wheeled routes
🐟 Restored ponds at Coronation Country Park
πŸ¦† Better wildlife habitats
🌳 Healthier green spaces for everyone

This funding comes directly from the Sustain Operations CIC, which reinvests profits from the Super-Midden site back into local community projects.

100% of the grant goes straight into making our town safer, greener, and better for residents and wildlife.

Local work. Local profits. Local impact. πŸ’š

A rubbish dump will be used to help grow everything from avocados to lettuce as part of a pioneering food project.

Sustain Wiltshire, a community interest company, has installed a flexible β€œgrowing dome” as tall as two double-decker buses on the landfill site near Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire.

Carbon dioxide is separated from the methane released by the landfill and piped into the pressurised dome to boost photosynthesis for the food grown inside

Whether you read the Western Daily Press, The Times, The Daily Telegraph, or the Daily Mail, you can't have missed all the coverage on Sustain Wiltshire's pioneering landfill gas powered growing dome.

Check out the Daily Mail's piece online here: https://loom.ly/zmRxAu0

🎾 Three times the size of a standard tennis court, and twice the height of a London double decker bus, the first positively pressured growing dome will be trialled and tested over the coming year.

πŸ«›Using a mix of hydroponics, raised growing beds and plant containers, a broad selection of produce will be grown from the spring, ready to meet the year-round needs of ten local families. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

βœ… Once perfected, we hope to gain permission for 110 such growing domes.
🍌πŸ₯‘ These will provide affordable fruit and vegetables to meet 80% of the requirements of Royal Wootton Basset, Purton and Brinkworth, with future expansion planned to cover Malmesbury.

Rolled out globally, this technology has the potential to change the face of food production as we know it.

Today marks the unveiling of a radical new approach to food production. πŸ₯¬

In a world-first, landfill gas tapped from Crapper and Sons’ landfill site will be turned into heat, power and CO2, to create perfect year-round growing conditions within giant, positively pressured, inflated growing domes located on our Royal Wooton Bassett landfill site.

πŸ₯’ This is world-leading technology that's capable of transforming landfill sites into low carbon, affordable fruit and vegetable production hubs.
