It’s World Vegan Day! It started back in 1994 to mark 50 years of The Vegan Society, the UK charity that came up with the word “vegan” in 1944. So here’s a quick reminder that every SESI refill on our shelves is vegan 🌱

Washing-up liquid, laundry liquid, hand wash, shampoo and the rest are all vegan and cruelty free. And the packaging goes round and round too. You refill your own bottle here, and once our big containers are empty they go back to SESI to be cleaned and filled up again, so around 95% of the packaging gets reused.

We’ll be honest, we have a slightly ridiculous number of brushes. Dish brushes, bottle brushes, scrubbing brushes, veg brushes, plant brushes, hair brushes, radiator brushes… to name a few.

We just really love a good brush! And the family’s grown again. Say hello to these natural seagrass hand brushes, perfect for when there’s three crumbs and half a biscuit on the table and getting the hoover out feels like a lot.

We’ve added to our candle collection, and little pumpkins have landed, just in time for Halloween 🎃

These are hand poured by The Recycled Candle Company using 50% recycled wax, and some of that wax may well have come from York. Old candle ends dropped off at HEIMA get collected by St Nicks Recycling Team ♻️ along with the rest of our tricky recycling, and they end up back in candles like these. So if you’ve ever brought us your candle stubs, you might be buying a bit of them back.

They’re unscented, burn for 4 to 8 hours, and are £5.50 each. Pop in or grab them online 👉

BIG news… 🔊 We now have baskets at HEIMA!!

Yes, it’s taken us ten years (We know! 😅) And in that time we’ve watched some very impressive balancing skills from you all.

We’re talking 3 bars of soap, a spatula, and a teapot under one arm, a baking tray in the other utilised as a make shift basket, and a refill bottle under your chin 🙌🏻

But alas, you can retire those balancing skills now.

Proper autumn morning in York today. Blue sky, sun’s out, bit of a nip in the air 🍂

Loads going on around the city, and if you’re after something to do this afternoon, the St Nicks Local Nature Reserve Autumn Fayre is on from 1 till 5 at the nature reserve on Rawdon Avenue. Live music, apple pressing, stalls, food and drink, and it’s free to get in. We’re supporting it this year and it’s always a good one.

We’re open as usual on Gillygate, so pop in if you’re passing.
