Today, we remember and honour Mike McDonagh - a man whose warmth, wit, and generosity reached far beyond Miltown Malbay.
From their very first visits to their now-forever home on the Ennis Road, our families felt beautifully intertwined. Mike was someone who championed local businesses, and we were lucky that his curiosity (and charm!) brought him through the doors of Burke’s more than once.
It didn’t take long for him to learn we had three daughters - and in true Mike style, his eyes lit up as they’d just found their lifelong babysitters… in the local hardware shop! That warmth, humour, and effortless connection was Mike in a nutshell.
But as we’ve come to learn more about his life outside of Clare, the depth of his humanitarian work - from the HSE and Concern to the United Nations - is truly staggering. His legacy stretches well beyond the West of Ireland, and the lives he touched are countless.
From all of us at Burke’s, we extend our deepest love to Sarah, Saoirse, Molly, and all who loved him. You welcomed every one of us like family - and Mike will never be forgotten.
Go gently, Mike. You made this world better. 💛
