[ Industrial Safety Alert: Is Your Factory's LOTO System Bulletproof? 🔒⚡ ]

🔑 The 5 Golden Rules of LOTO
1️⃣ One Person, One Lock, One Key – No sharing keys, no master key shortcuts.
2️⃣ Zero Energy State Verification – Always bleed off compressed air, spring tension, and residual electricity.
3️⃣ Mandatory Danger Tagging – Every lock MUST carry a tag with the authorized person’s name, contact, and date.
4️⃣ Verification ("Try-Out") Precedes Work – Always test-run the controls to prove zero power before touching any parts.
5️⃣ No Unauthorized Removal – Removing someone else's lock requires strict, management-approved emergency procedures.
⚙️ The 7-Step LOTO Standard Workflow
Step 1: Identify – Map out all energy sources (Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatic, Chemical, Hydraulic).
Step 2: Notify – Inform all affected operators and staff in the area before shutting down.
Step 3: Shutdown – Turn off equipment using standard controls.
Step 4: Isolate – Disconnect main power breakers or close primary valves (never rely on E-stops!).
Step 5: Lock & Tag – Apply padlocks, multi-lock hasps, or lockboxes alongside Red Danger Tags.
Step 6: Release Stored Energy – Bleed pressure lines, discharge capacitors, and block gravity-held arms.
Step 7: Verify (Try-Out) – Test start controls to confirm zero power, then switch back to "OFF".
⚠️ A Real-World Lesson:
A past incident at a Johor palm oil mill saw a technician lose his arm simply because power was switched off without a physical lock applied. During shift handover, an operator turned the power back on remotely. Proper lock placement and verification would have prevented this tragedy.
