THE NEW IGP.
By Liborous Oshoma Esq
I am compelled to talk about this because a lot of people are calling to ask my views about it .
From available documents Tunji Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 18th 1992.
Frank Mba joined the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano in 1994 graduating as the best cadet inspector in 1995
DSP Frank Mbah who was subsequently promoted to SP in 2008 was announced as the new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos State to replace SP Olubode Ojajuni who today is CP Interpol annex Alagbon on the 3rd of December, 2007
CSP Mba was the Nigeria Force Public Relations Officer from February 2012 to August, 2014 taking over from Moshood Jimoh who is now CP Lagos State Command and was subsequently promoted to ACP and made Area Commander.
Disu on the other hand was a contingent commander, of the Nigerian Police contingent on African Union Mission peacekeeping mission Darfur in Sudan until 2006 when he returned back to Nigeria.
He was Officer in Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and anti-kidnapping in River State.
And later SARS commander in Ondo, Oyo and Rivers States again.
He was also (2IC) State Criminal Investigations Department Rivers States.
Before his appointment as commander of the Lagos State Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) between June 13, 2015, to August 2021 when he was promoted to DCP.
Frank was appointed and decorated as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police in March 2025 as the head of the Department of Logistics and Supply, he oversees the technical, administrative, and logistical needs of the entire Nigeria Police Force, including procurement, works, housing, and the Force Quarter-Master.
Tunji Disu became Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
And was appointed the new head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), a position previously held by Abba Kyar on August 2, 2021, by Usman Alkali Baba, the then IGP and was was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police in March 2023
The fact remains that, in Nigeria, every rank beyond Commissioner of Police has all the trappings of politics.
Today some of Disu’s colleagues are still oscillating between CP and AIG while he is now the IGP.
Also most of Frank’s mate are still Commissioner of Police whilst he rose to the enviable rank of a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
They are both fine and innovative officers of the Nigeria Police Force and easily accessible by everyone who has had dealings with them.
We can only charge the New IGP innovate new tactics to revolutionize the Nigeria Police and hopefully write his name in gold in the sand of time, as he did when he was Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) between June 13, 2015, to August 2021.
I hope I have been able to educate someone who is not blinded by sentiments this morning?
I come in peace.
