In June, Brownline UK surveyed the pilot drills for the installation of two 16" water mains under the A9 in Scotland. These new pipelines will carry water from a nearby reservoir to a pumping station in Luncarty, on the other side of the motorway. 🛣️

The trenchless works carried out by Gmac Utilities Ltd were challenging because of a combination of the unpredictable soil (gravel and fractured sandstone) and a very tight exit window, located on a 12 m / 40 ft wide strip along the A9.

The answer is... FICTION!
❌ Satellite signals cannot pe*****te the ground, which means a different technology is needed for underground position determination. More and more drilling contractors rely on advanced gyroscopic technology to determine the exact position of the drill head.

One year ago, Brownline worked with A.Hak to complete an HDD crossing with a length of nearly 700 m / 2300 ft near Den Helder. What made it special is that the job was completed without emissions thanks to power units running on hydrogen. A great innovation for sustainability! From our Brownline van, we surveyed the pilot drill with extreme precision.

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀? 𝗡𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗚𝗦𝗧!

Earlier this year, Brownline Canada surveyed two horizontal directional drills in Mildred Lake, Alberta. Our client Directional Drilling was tasked with the trenchless relocation of a sanitary sewer line.

The new sewer line was installed under wetlands and a highway. Surface access was very limited, so the job required a guidance system that does not rely on measurements taken from the surface above the bore line. Brownline's Drillguide GST works independently of its surroundings, which made it the ideal system to steer these pilot drills to the exit stake. 🧭

The result? Two highly accurate and efficient crossings, a smooth installation of the sanitary sewer line, and a satisfied client. 🎯
