After a powerful tour, the Håvard Stubø Quintet brought their final chapter to Newtone, recording an album that captures what comes after the stage: something permanent.

Featuring some of the most vital voices in Scandinavian jazz, from Sweden to Narvik in the far north, this project reflects both range and precision.

Bringing together essential musicians across borders, backgrounds, and generations, this wasn’t just a collaboration, it was a statement.

At Newtone, this is what we do best: capturing the moment where great music becomes timeless.

Not everything fits neatly into a box - and that’s exactly the point.

Meet The Lowground. A fresh collective of seasoned musicians pulling from country, roots, rock, and a touch of pop; blending it all into something that feels both nostalgic and new. Think rich guitar textures, pedal steel, warm basslines, and harmonies that stay with you long after the song ends.

Behind the sound is a group of artists with deep roots in bands like Lucky Lips, Orango, Mother Trudy, and collaborations with names like Amund Maarud, The Northern Belle, and Torgeir Waldemar. This is a convergence of experience, experimentation, and pure musical instinct.

Their debut single, “Shadows of Love,” is already out, marking the start of what promises to be an exciting journey.
And now, their live journey begins.

The Lowground takes the stage for their debut performance as special guests for Heigh Chief, setting the tone for what’s to come.

Turn up the volume. This is just the beginning.

Heigh Chief have released the music video for the first single from their album “Tales of the Once Was” - recorded, mixed, and mastered at Newtone AS Recording Studios. This album marks a new chapter in our long-running collaboration, capturing their signature rock and Americana sound with clarity and depth.

Something new is in motion

While Leif Johansenn has had the pleasure of working with Heigh Chief over the past seven records, their latest album, “Tales of the Once Was”, was recorded, mixed and mastered here at Newtone AS Recording Studios, marking an exciting new chapter in their sound.

They’ll be joined by The Lowground for a concert at 📍Parkteatret on 25 February, making it a live show well worth catching.

This is the kind of work we love: artists with a clear sound, strong musicianship, and a vision that deserves to be captured honestly and with depth. No overproduction, no shortcuts, just great music, recorded with intention. More from this collaboration soon.

This moment features FrankåGunnar, captured during a live studio performance and recorded as Aufenthalt Film. Their work carries a quiet intensity; grounded, immersive, and deeply present. The kind of performance that benefits from time, stillness, and careful listening in a controlled recording studio environment.

At Newtone Studios, we pay close attention to those conditions. From sound quality and acoustics to the atmosphere in the room, the studio is shaped to support focused recording sessions, live takes, and filmed performances without interruption or unnecessary pressure.

Aufenthalt Film captures what can happen when the space supports the work and allows it to unfold naturally.

Working with Nico & Vinz always brings a familiar energy into the room. Beyond their global breakthrough with “Am I Wrong” and the string of hits that followed, what really stands out is how consistently they show up to do the real work. They’ve booked themselves into Newtone Studios for pre-production many times now, and every session carries that same mix of focus, curiosity, and humility.

We also owe a lot of these moments to Nick Hatch, their drummer and our colleague here at Scandinavian Acoustics, who always finds a way to bridge the worlds of artist and studio in the smoothest way possible.

There’s something special about watching ideas take shape in real time, and we’re looking forward to sharing more from these sessions soon.

Last week’s production at Newtone AS Studio with the team from Høgskolen Staffelds University had that easy Oslo energy; the kind that keeps the groove running long after wrap-up.

Film and music came together in one seamless flow, each enhancing the other without pause. Produced side by side, one heartbeat.

What a day filled with rhythm, focus, and the kind of collaboration that keeps the mix alive.

We’re proud to share The Great Danish Songbook, a beautiful homage to Denmark’s musical heritage, brought to life by the incomparable Majken Christiansen and her talented collaborators Magne Arnesen, Torstein Ellingsen, Lars Frank and Andreas Dreier.

Mixed and mastered right here at Newtone AS Studios by our own Leif Johansen, this record is a testament to the magic that happens when world-class artistry meets precision sound engineering.

It’s been an honor to help shape the sonic soul of this project and we’re already looking forward to welcoming this incredible team back to NewTone in the future.
