When we first thought about doing something renovative with the Sea Nymph V13 the thought was that we could produce a boat that a young independent adventurous woman might buy...
Maybe 2 or 3 together.
That target market appears bigger now.
Teenage son wanting his first boat. His parents wanting it to be safe.
New family with a young family needing a little more than just the very basic ass......and it has to be safe.
On our company letterhead you'll find the legend 'On our care lives depend'
We take that seriously...after all we are putting 2nd hand boats back into the market.
There is significant work required to achieve that and offer something we see as akin to a Toyota Signature class vehicle.
How best to do that is the question.

Never be surprised at the places where water manages to find it's way. In the original iteration of the V13 the back to back fibreglass seats provided support for the hull topsides. When these seats were replaced in later versions that support was lost and was replaced by sealed fibreglass beams running fore and aft above the chines. The only penetrations at manufacture were small screws on the vertical fixing upholstered panels that allowed some storage. That, it turns out, is enough to allow those beams to fill with water negating any possible flotation benefit.

As with cars there's nothing novel about the idea that with each new owner a boat deteriorates at least a little bit and over 50 odd years they can deteriorate a lot. With wooden boats that deterioration is easily identifiable. Not necessarily so with a fibreglass boat.
We have brought in a few V13s and the degree of hidden damage is significant so this is both an insight into the level of restorative work we undertake as well as a warning to those considering or in their early years of boat ownership to consider getting professional advise.
With cars, the need for a regular wof check maintains a standard of safety.
Boats suffer from the lack of a similar regular check on worthiness. Couple that with a target market with limited marine experience....undue risk.
