18% less heating energy. Just from insulating the slab edge.

That's what energy modeller Rowan Thompson found when he took an existing house model in Wānaka, adjusted it to a standard NZ Building Code specification, and compared its heating demand with and without slab-edge insulation.

It's a compelling example of why energy modelling matters.

Products like Quick Edge can make a significant difference to a home's thermal performance, but modelling allows us to actually quantify that difference rather than relying on assumptions.

And if one component can make an 18% difference to annual heating demand in a particular home, what else could modelling reveal?

A great afternoon at the HPB Innovation Hub!

Last week, we welcomed the team from LT McGuinness Auckland to the Hub for a workshop and catch-up, complete with HPB’s famous pizzas, drinks, and a bit of friendly competition on the golf simulator!

It was great to hear about the exciting projects underway, share ideas, and bring a fantastic group of people together outside the day-to-day hustle of the construction industry.

What a night! Brilliant products, great food, inspiring stories and even better people.

Our Exclusive Evening with INNOVA brought together industry experts, real-world case studies and valuable conversations about how smart design and innovative fibre cement products can make building better, easier and more cost-effective.

Real experience. Real results.

Hosted by Jim, our panel discussion featured some fantastic industry voices:

Wayne Zhang – Chancellor Building shared his experience using INNOVA fibre cement across his builds, having built more than 1,000 homes.

Bobby Banerjee – Mercury Architects offered an architect’s perspective on specifying INNOVA products, drawing on more than a decade of experience and the benefits of durable, low-maintenance fibre cement.

The Holah brothers made the trip from Hamilton to share their experiences with INNOVA and showcase real-world case studies from their projects.

We also explored the INNOVA story, from BGC’s acquisition by Etex and the subsequent rebrand to INNOVA, through to the company’s continued innovation and growth in New Zealand and internationally.

Ash Batey and the INNOVA team took us through their extensive product range and services, highlighting the technical support and customer service that help set them apart.

Jim’s Crusade to Electrify NZ is well underway!

As part of his latest High Performance mission, Jim has been teaming up with Zeekr and getting behind the wheel of some seriously impressive EVs.

He’s been putting the Zeekr 7, recently seen at the Hub, through its paces — and he simply can’t stop raving about the build quality, technology and high performance. With Zeekr now launching in New Zealand, Jim has a very important decision to make… which Zeekr is he going to buy? 👀

While he’s loving the 7, the sporty new Zeekr X is also catching his attention.

Jim was last spotted talking to Panasonic about where the EV charger should go at the Hub… because apparently, petrol is “for old people.” 😂

As you know, when Jim gets on a High Performance mission, things are about to get busy at the Innovation Hub. 🚀⚡
