Heading to Milan Design Week 2026? 🇮🇹

If it’s your first time, here are a few tips:

📍 The Salone del Mobile Fair (furniture, kitchens & bathrooms) is incredible … and massive!
Head there early (make sure you are on the correct red line metro as it splits in two), wear trainers, plan out the pavilions & sites you most want to visit, and prepare to be wowed!

📍 Specific districts in Milan transform into design extravaganzas for the week.
Make sure to spend time in Brera, which will be heaving, (loads of kitchen, bathroom, furniture & surface showrooms) & Tortona (more avant garde, home to the always fabulous Moooi exhibition).
Isola (near Porto Nuova (& Bosco Verticale), is where you’ll find emerging creatives, modern architecture & relaxed cafes.

📍 There are mindblowing one-off installations - this year, check out the two Alcova sites: Villa Pestarini (open for the first time in 87 years) & the post WWI Baggio Military hospital.

📍 For a special view of the Duomo, go to one of the terrace bars on the 7th floor of La Rinascente. You can enjoy the sunshine (hopefully) & the Duomo with a spritz in your hand.

📍 While there is no shortage of spectacular high end fashion boutiques - locals shop in Porto Venezia (Corso Buenos Aires) & closer to the centre on the same road, ‘Outlet Matia’s’ often has some outstanding designer bargains.

If you’re finding it a little hard to get your head fully back into work mode after the summer break, you’re certainly not alone. 🤯

One of the more reliable remedies — amid the constant stream of well-intentioned advice we all receive (insert eyeroll) — is to give yourself something genuinely interesting to look forward to. Modernism Week 2026 just kicked off in Palm Springs! 🌴 🌵 ☀️ 🪩

Two years ago we hosted our inaugural APT Innovation In Design Award winners - Sonya Cotter (Sonya Cotter Design), Pete Bosley (Pete Bosley Architects), Daniel Kempka & Scott Compton (both from Warren & Mahoney) - at this incredible event.

A highlight - aside from all of the architectural marvels - was the exclusive Friday night party at Frank Sinatra’s house.
(Thanks to the Modernism Week team for sourcing the tickets to this sold out event!)

A surprisingly modest house by today’s standards, with many mid century design hallmarks. The best part is the pool which is shaped like a grand piano - when the sun hits a certain point, the shadows from the nearby walkway pillars look like piano keys.

We will be running our APT Innovation in Design Awards again this year. 🏆
