Wool Insulation - Installed to perfection! 🐏 🧐

Peter from Ethos Homes takes us through our R6.4 240mm Skillion Roof insulation going into an I-beam rafter structure. Our semi-rigid wool batts friction-fit snugly between the joists with no sagging or gaps!

Check out our I-beam fillets too. They fill the recess between the top and bottom flanges 😎

The Ethos team has gone further than most:
✔️ Fewer dwangs and nogs in the walls, so less thermal bridging
✔️ Notched nogging in the ceiling to keep the insulation continuous
✔️ Chosen wool that’s comfortable to handle, so no itch for their team and PPE

7.5 tonnes of New Zealand Wool. One very happy brook. 🌿💧

July 2025: 15,000 m² of DAGMAT® laid across the freshly reshaped banks of Addington Brook in South Hagley Park.

September 2026: native riparian planting well on its way, and the brook looking amazing!

Addington Brook is one of the most polluted waterways in Christchurch, and its renewal will have multiple benefits, including improved biodiversity, increased stormwater drainage capacity, and enhanced landscaping and safety for park users.

Christchurch City Council's renewal of the brook set out to stabilise the banks, filter contaminants through native riparian planting, and create habitat for tuna (eels) and native fish. We're proud to have supplied the wool that held those banks together while the plants took hold.

What 7.5 tonnes of wool was doing in between:

🐑 Holding the soil in place: protecting the brook from sediment run-off while the banks were most exposed
🌱 Feeding the planting: as the wool breaks down, it releases nitrogen and other nutrients into the soil, giving young plants a natural boost
💧 Holding moisture: wool absorbs water and releases it slowly to the roots
♻️ Leaving nothing behind: no plastic netting and no synthetic residue

The Council expects the planting to take two to three years to fully establish, and it's already looking like this.

♻️ Stage 2: Turning offcuts back into fibre.

Once insulation offcuts are returned to our factory, they're carefully chopped and ragged back into a reusable fibre. This gives the material a new life instead of becoming landfill.

That recycled fibre is then blended with new New Zealand wool, recycled New Zealand wool, and our binding fibre before being transformed into high-performance insulation once again.

Less waste. More value. A truly circular approach to manufacturing.
