Problems with your kitchen or bathroom hinges?

For some reason, last week I had to help four customers either fix or replace their hinges. They don't last forever.

The hinges, I mean.

HOWEVER, did you know there are all kinds of different hinges, so getting the right one isn't easy.

There are 90degrees, 115 degrees etc and there are different holes, screws and rebates used.

Even if your hinge holes are loose, I can fix em.

S had a beautiful old Grandmother clock from her Grandparent’s home that she inherited. A lovely old, wooden, ornate beauty.

So, as well as putting new window latch pads onto her aluminium windows to stop them rattling, and putting up an outdoor shelf, Handyman Rob hung the old clock where it now takes pride of place.

By the way, someone recently asked me why I had so many lovely handyman customers. I said, Well if you are good at doing a wide range of things then you can help people with a whole lot of small jobs in one visit.

Happy New Year to you all. I thought I would put a quick post up to say that I am not working as a Handyman until the end of January. I have had quite a few enquiries in the last few days, which is understandable, but I need a little time off.

Any enquiries from the last week of January onwards will be very welcome. Even the dogs agree it’s time for a break.

Handyman Rob turned his attention onto his own house these last few months.

Here are a few pics of the prepping, painting, wainscoting (that’s the decorative stuff on the walls), curtaining and carpeting we put in.

Sometimes, changing the look and feel can enhance the pleasure you get out of the room and the calmness you feel.

Oh dear! A customer called asking if I could fix the hole in his door.

Errrr, no not really I said, after seeing photos. (Note: the hole is worse in this photo because I broke off a big piece to get the colour matched, but it was still damaged way beyond repair).

So HMR sourced a new timber-veneer door, routed out hinge butts, drilled for the door handle, and the stained and varnished (x3) to get it looking nice.

These kind of does are expensive to replace due to the veneer style.

K asked HMR to come and take out the old, put in the new and ensure it’s fully weatherproofed.

Old cowl off, new cowl in, no further scowling required.

Wow! With all this rain we’ve had in the past few weeks the issues with leaking doors and windows have surfaced with vengeance.

If there’s water getting in, things rot and finally they become obvious.

Handyman Rob has done quite a few jobs in the last 6 weeks:

- assessing the rot/leaks/situation
- digging out the rot
- analysing the cause and taking remedial action
- adding weatherproof silicone to increase resilience to water
- filling the hole with solid filler
- sanding/priming/undercoat/topcoat again.

PS If the job requires a Licensed Builder I will let you know. It depends on the problem and the fix.

Oh no! Handyman Rob is not well and needs a few days to recuperate. But it got me thinking, there has been a long list of customers whom HMR has helped recently on a range of small jobs. Let me see….

H moved into a new house and HMR :
- removed some old towel rails etc
- installed new ones
- dug out rot in the corner of the windows and filled/sanded/repainted them
- siliconed around basins
- organised to get the house and roof washed by professionals (go The Tidy Kiwi!!)
- got the front door unstuck by removing/trimming/reinstalling.

That’s the good thing about HMR, he can do a range of niggly things and get them all sorted.
