A proud alumnus of USJ-R, Ambassador Benedicto was more than a pillar of diplomacy and culture, he was a man whose heart never left San Jose. His generosity made possible the global performances of the USJ-R Dramatics and Cultural Ensemble โ€“ ALLEF in Singapore, Beijing, South Korea, across the U.S., and here at home.

He also gave back in lasting ways by donating classrooms, nurturing generations of Josenians to come.

Ambassador Francisco L. Benedicto was not only a distinguished public servant and diplomat but also a visionary leader whose unshakeable dedication to education led to the founding of Benedicto College. His legacy is evident in every student who walks onto the campus and, more significantly, in every dream realized as a result of the opportunities he helped create.

He touched and changed the lives of countless people with his kindness and service-oriented heart. By founding his school, he provided easy access to quality education for all-and it now proudly operates across three campuses. Benedictians are and will continue to be inspired by his commitment to being a force for change and nation-building.

As we mourn the passing of a truly great philanthropist, we also give thanks for the life he so meaningfully lived. Even though his presence is no longer with us, Benedicto College will always be rooted in his spirit.

We humbly ask that you pray for Ambassador Francisco Benedicto's eternal rest and for the strength and comfort of his family, friends, and the entire Benedicto College community during this difficult time.

The University of San Jose- Recoletos extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Dr. Francisco Benedicto, a distinguished diplomat and proud Cebuano.

He served in various diplomatic postsโ€”including Singapore and Brazilโ€”and was honorary consul to Belgium. His efforts helped bring foreign grants that supported key development and infrastructure projects in Cebu.

In 1987, USJ-R conferred on him a Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa, in recognition of his diplomatic service. A Mass Communication studio in the University also bears his name as a lasting tribute.

An outstanding Josenian alumnus, Dr. Benedicto was also instrumental in promoting Josenian talents on the global stage. As a benefactor of the USJ-R Dramatics and Cultural Ensemble, he made it possible for student artists to perform internationally in countries like Singapore, China, South Korea, and the United States. His personal generosity even extended to helping individual students obtain their first passports and travel abroad for cultural exchanges.

Dr. Benedicto passed away on July 2, 2025 at the age of 86. His legacy of service, generosity, and cultural pride continues to inspire the Josenian community.
