3 ply formwork panel enquiry should include the concrete finish required on the job.

ROCPLEX supply three-layer timber shuttering panels with yellow resin coating on both faces. Our standard range includes 21 mm and 27 mm nominal thicknesses, with optional factory edge sealing.

For slab formwork, have the designer confirm the panel thickness for the proposed beam spacing and loading. Where appearance is critical, we recommend a trial pour using the intended concrete mix, release agent and panel preparation.

Compare cost per pour with freight, cutting waste, cleaning and repairs included. Base reuse estimates on comparable site conditions and finish requirements.

Can an H20 Beam pass strength checks and still deflect too much?

Yes. Bending resistance and stiffness are different properties. Passing a load-capacity check does not automatically satisfy the project’s deflection limit.

We manufacture timber I-section beams for temporary concrete formwork. Our standard H20 Beam section is 200 mm deep with 80 mm-wide flanges.

The flanges primarily resist bending. The web and flange-to-web bonds transfer shear, allowing the section to work together.

For slab formwork and table formwork, we recommend checking:

* Strength: permissible bending moment, shear force and support reaction.
* Deflection: bending stiffness EI, span, loading and support conditions.
* Complete system: formwork plywood, secondary beams, primary beams, props and the supporting base.

A higher beam load rating cannot correct excessive plywood spans or settlement beneath the props.

Before ordering, review the technical data, bonding-control records, dimensional inspections and product-specific EN 13377 evidence where required. Keep beams with suspected bond separation or structural damage out of service pending assessment.

Specify your 3 ply formwork panel around the slab layout and site loading requirements.

ROCPLEX supply yellow shuttering panels in 21 mm and 27 mm nominal thicknesses. Panel selection should suit the beam spacing, design loads and required concrete finish.

Plan for the materials arriving before the pour, too. Stacks of panels, timber beams and reinforcement introduce localised loads that need checking against the temporary works design.

PP PLASTIC COATED PLYWOOD: WILL THE NEXT ORDER MATCH THE APPROVED SAMPLE?

For building-material wholesalers and formwork contractors, consistent supply starts with a clear specification.

ROCPLEX supplies PP plastic coated plywood with a polypropylene facing over a layered wood veneer core. The coating provides a moisture-resistant, easy-to-clean contact surface for concrete shuttering.

The standard sheet size is 2440 × 1220 mm, with birch or hardwood core options. Available thicknesses include 12, 15 and 18 mm.

Before approving an order, ROCPLEX recommends agreeing on:

• Core species and veneer construction
• Finished panel thickness and permitted tolerance
• Bonding requirements
• PP facing specification and edge treatment
• Inspection criteria and required certification

For slab, wall and column formwork, select the panel using strength and stiffness data appropriate to the design loads and support spacing. Nominal thickness alone cannot establish load capacity.

Can the coated face prevent edge swelling?

It helps protect the face, but cutting and drilling expose the wood core. Reseal exposed edges and holes before use, and repair damaged protection between pours.

To compare PP-faced plywood with phenolic film faced plywood, trial equivalent panel constructions under comparable conditions. Record concrete finish, cleaning time, surface wear and acceptable reuses.

How much thickness variation is acceptable in structural plywood?

The answer depends on the specified product standard, panel finish and purchase requirements. We recommend agreeing the nominal thickness, permitted tolerance and measurement method before production.

For batch inspection, measure sampled sheets at the prescribed positions and record individual results in millimetres. Minimum and maximum readings help reveal variation that an average can hide.

For subflooring and roof decking, consistent thickness helps adjoining panels meet evenly. Structural grade, bond performance and installation requirements still need separate verification.

For commercial wall panels and shopfitting, we recommend choosing fire rated MDF against the required classification and the final installation details.

We supply fire-retardant MDF—medium-density fibreboard treated to improve its reaction-to-fire performance—for interior joinery applications.

A board’s reaction-to-fire classification does not establish the fire-resistance duration of a complete wall or door assembly.

Before ordering, ask us to confirm:

• The specified fire standard and documented classification.
• Report coverage for the product, thickness, density and surface finish.
• Installation conditions, including backing, air gaps and fixings.
• Manufacturer identification and batch traceability.

Check report coverage before adding paint, veneer, laminate or decorative perforations. A change to the finished panel can affect its fire performance.

Moisture resistance and formaldehyde emissions also need separate specifications.

Can structural plywood of the same thickness be swapped on site?

Only after checking that the replacement meets the project specification. Veneer construction and structural grading affect strength and stiffness, while the glue bond must suit the exposure conditions.

We recommend comparing the structural grade, thickness tolerance, veneer lay-up and supporting documents before approving a change. For wall bracing, roof sheathing and subflooring, the panel must also suit the specified loads, support spacing and fixing schedule.
