What is the difference between 10/10 and 10/11 finger joint knives?

The key difference is finger-joint depth and whether the machine is equipped with a trimming saw, also known as a hogging saw.

A 10/11 finger joint knife produces an approximately 11.5mm-deep finger-joint profile and is generally suitable for automatic finger-jointing lines with end trimming.

A 10/10 finger joint knife produces an approximately 10.5mm-deep profile and is used on machines without a hogging saw. In this setup, timber ends should be squared before finger-joint profiling.

When replacing or selecting knives, checking the machine structure, end-trimming process, existing cutter setup, and required joint profile is more reliable than choosing by depth alone.

複合切削區是上切與下切結構交疊作用的位置，當切削深度到達這個區域時，刀具才能更有效協助降低板材上下表面的崩邊與毛邊。

Mortise Tip 的前端上切段較短，因此能在較淺的切削深度進入複合切削區，較適合薄板、淺槽與 DADO 開槽等加工需求。

標準型複合式螺旋銑刀的前端上切段通常較長，較適合厚板、深槽與貫穿切削。它不是性能較低，而是對應不同的加工深度。

Mortise Tip and standard compression router bits are not selected by shape alone.

The key difference is whether the cutting depth can reach the compression zone.

This is the overlapping cutting area where the up-cut and down-cut sections work together to help reduce chipping on both the top and bottom surfaces.

A Mortise Tip has a shorter front up-cut section, allowing the tool to enter the compression zone at a shallower depth. It is generally suitable for thin panels, shallow grooves, and dado machining.

A standard compression router bit usually has a longer front up-cut section and is better suited for thicker panels, deeper grooves, and through-cutting applications.

The right choice should be based on material thickness, cutting depth, machine rigidity, clamping stability, RPM, feed speed, and chip evacuation.
