What Are Geotextiles?
Geotextiles are permeable textile materials made from synthetic fibers (e.g., polypropylene, polyester). They are produced in woven, non-woven, or knitted forms and are designed for use in contact with soil, rock, or water in civil engineering projects.
Main Uses:
1. – Prevent mixing of different soil layers (e.g., between subgrade and gravel base in roads).
2. – Allow water to pass through while retaining soil particles, preventing clogging.
3. – Channel water away from structures like retaining walls or foundations.
4. – Increase the strength and stability of slopes, embankments, and pavements.
5.Erosion Control – Protect riverbanks, shorelines, and hillsides from water or wind erosion.
Geotextiles are durable, cost-effective, and essential for modern infrastructure projects such as roads, landfills, railways, and drainage systems.
