Our Story - “Then and Now”

This is “Now” - On April 1, 2019, the DOOR COUNTY COOPERATIVE purchased Walter’s of Rio Creek and Walter’s Do-it Best Hardware from the Walter Family. The Door County Coop is owned by members and profits are returned to members through dividend payouts. Our member/owners vote for board members and can participate in governance of the cooperative. Membership is ownership, ownership is free, voluntary and open to anyone over the age of 18. Each owner gets to vote to help make the organization’s policies and decisions. Owners also have the potential to receive a percentage of Door County Coop’s profits paid back to them annually in the form of payouts or “patronage dividend distributions”. Shopping the Coop supports the local economy. Cooperatives build a better world by advancing sustainable development, social integration, and decent work. The Walter family and their employees are excited to be employed by the Door County Coop, and look forward to serving their customers in the same manner as they have in the past - “Saving You Money and Serving You Best”!
