Our regular field meetings help our crews share ideas, discuss challenges, and find the best solutions together.

🌲 Restoring Access to Nature | Chilao Visitor Center

Another completed project in the beautiful Angeles National Forest!

Bellfree Contractors successfully completed the Chilao Visitor Center Boardwalk Rehabilitation Project, restoring and improving visitor infrastructure to make it safer, more durable, and accessible.

🔨 Project highlights:

🌉 96 linear feet of pedestrian bridge reconstructed
🪵 300 square feet of bridge decking replaced
🌲 320 linear feet of new fencing installed
🪑 7 wooden benches repaired

Our crews also rehabilitated existing wooden structures, rebuilt the entrance deck, and applied protective finishes to help preserve these improvements for years to come.

We're proud to contribute to the preservation of our public lands and help visitors enjoy the natural beauty of Angeles National Forest.

We’re grateful to National Forest Foundation and U.S. Forest Service for their trust and the opportunity to contribute to this project.

🌧️ Preparing Trails for El Niño & Winter Storms

✅ Good trail maintenance starts before the heavy rain arrives.

🚧 Bellfree Contractors is working across different trail systems to improve drainage, reinforce vulnerable areas, and help protect trails from erosion and storm damage during the coming winter season.

💪 Our crews are focusing on rock armoring in erosion-prone areas, repairing and improving trail drainage, stabilizing vulnerable trail sections, repairing damaged drainage features, directing stormwater away from trail surfaces, strengthening trails for the wet season ahead.

💧 Proper drainage and rock armoring can make a major difference during heavy storms. By managing water before it concentrates and causes erosion, we can help preserve the trail, reduce future damage, and protect the surrounding landscape.

🚧 Recently Completed | Temescal Gateway Park – Pacific Palisades

Bellfree Contractors recently completed trail restoration work at Temescal Gateway Park in Pacific Palisades, helping repair recreational infrastructure damaged by fire.

The project included restoring damaged sections of trails, constructing and replacing more than 100 timber steps, and rebuilding three trail bridges within the park.

Working in a post-fire environment brings its own challenges. Trail conditions, drainage, slope stability, damaged structures, access, and protection of the surrounding landscape all have to be considered while bringing the trail system back into safe and usable condition.

Projects like this are a good example of how trail construction is not only about building something new. Maintaining and restoring existing recreational infrastructure is just as important—especially after wildfire, storms, erosion, and years of heavy use.

We’re glad to have contributed to the recovery of Temescal Gateway Park and to helping our partners at L.A. Mountains and LA Conservation Corps to restore access to trails enjoyed by the local community.

Building and Maintaining Southern California’s Trails

Bellfree Contractors is continuing work across Southern California on trail construction, restoration and outdoor infrastructure projects.

Our current field operations include trail shaping and compaction, drainage improvements, erosion protection, rock armoring, timber structures and site restoration. Every project requires careful planning, experienced field crews and close coordination between project management, supervisors and equipment operators.

Our crew recently completed a retaining wall installation on the Sunset Ridge Trail in the Angeles National Forest.

Constructed in a narrow and challenging section of the trail, this improvement enhances visitor safety, stabilizes the hillside, and helps protect the trail from erosion. Projects like this play an important role in maintaining sustainable trail access while preserving the natural beauty of our public lands.

We are proud to support this effort in collaboration with the Mount Wilson Bicycling Association - MWBA and the U.S. Forest Service helping ensure that these treasured trails remain safe and accessible for future generations. 🌲⛰️🛠️
