Forging the last 10 camp hatchets before we transition to a new full tang model. Despite major popularity, we are sunsetting the original camp hatchets in favor of a design that works better for our production shop.

These days we’re using premium stainless steels that have allowed us to move on from heavy forging methods, and focus more on heat treat, grind and performance.

But I doubt this will be the last time I run through this process….its just too much fun…..

This clip shows one of the key stages in hand-sculpting a steak knife handle on a slack belt.

Every handle starts as a solid block. I CNC the initial 3D shape, profile, and pin holes—then epoxy it to the blade. From there it’s all by hand.

At this stage, I’m refining the final ergonomics with a 120-grit slack belt—dialing in the contours, balance, and feel in the hand.

Next steps: progressive refinement and bringing it all the way up to a finished polish. This is part of an 8-piece set that will be available online in the next few weeks.
