After 3 years of starting and growing this business, it’s time to make some necessary changes. In these next two months (March and April), we are going to be downsizing our operation here and transitioning to my home workshop.

Timber Bear Woodworks will absolutely continue on and will keep pushing to become an elite specialty woodworking shop. The core of the original vision is still very much alive so Timber Bear isn’t going away anytime soon. It’ll just look a little different here in 2026 and beyond.

This decision was an extremely difficult one and it’s something that’s kept me awake many nights over the winter here. Trying to balance everything has simply become too difficult and has forced me to step back and reevaluate what life should look like. Especially having a family with young kids. Anyone that has owned a business of any kind can certainly empathize.

I’ve prayed a lot for direction and wisdom and I feel very at peace that this is the next step God wants us to take. All glory to Him for the incredible blessings He’s given us here during phase one of this journey.

I’d like to genuinely thank all of you, the amazing clients and people that have come in through these doors the last 3 years. I’d like to thank you for all of the countless smiles, stories, conversations, pictures of projects, sawdust made, and most importantly, thank you for your friendship and trust.

I’ll post more over the coming weeks as the transition plan and schedule become more clear. We still have custom projects going on and will continue to work on throughout and after the transition. So we’d love to chat about building custom projects for you!

For now though, here’s what we’re going to do… I want to get these slabs and lumber piles out of here, so there’s going be a series of downsizing sales over the next month or two, starting with THIS SATURDAY!

Another fun (and delicious) wood project!

A client and friend has an amazing BBQ business and hosted a first annual event today in Gallitzin, PA: The Gallitzin Fire and Freedom BBQ Bash. He asked us to make him custom cutting boards to award as 1st and 2nd place prizes, so that’s exactly what we did!

Spalted maple cutting boards with specialized laser engraving for four different categories and then the two places. We might be a little biased but we think they turned out pretty cool 😎

And then Tyler had the extra awesome opportunity of being one of the tasting judges, how does it get better than that? Incredibly delicious ribs, BBQ chicken, brisket, and pork. Yes please!

Beautiful weather, mouthwatering food, and interesting vendors, what a phenomenal event all around. Make sure you look for the Fire and Freedom BBQ Bash next year in 2026!

We were asked a few months ago to build a few specific wooden items for a local wedding and today was the special day! We built a wooden backdrop wall and a customized wooden guest signature plaque.

One of the blessings of our business here is having a shop inventory full of quality lumber so we strive to make every project out of authentic lumber products, nothing cheap or fake.

For the backdrop wall and its support posts, we used a mixture of hemlock and white pine. And then for the wooden guest signature plaque, we made that out of maple. The black and white lettering was all made from sheets of acrylic, which was cut out on our laser machine.

Really pleased with how it all came out and even more grateful for the project! Congratulations to the Halls! We hope today was the perfect day you had been imagining.

What’s going on in the shop here at Timber Bear lately? Awesome question and we’d be happy to share!

These last couple of months (especially these last few weeks) have been absolute chaos in here as we work on a ton of different projects all at once. We still get surprise reactions when we explain that we build custom furniture of all kinds so we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to show some of the things currently being built here!

1. The biggest thing being fabricated right now is a huge custom kitchen! It’ll have painted white cabinets with two rows of upper cabinets going all the way to the 10’ ceiling, a really long island, and tons of counter space. We can’t wait to show you!

2. Going along with this kitchen is a big walk-in pantry that will have specialty cabinets for cans and jars, some open shelving, more cabinets for hidden storage, and will even have a disguised faux door designed to look like a cabinet door.

3. Next, we’re building 5 bathroom vanities: two that will go in a master bathroom, two that will go in a Jack & Jill bath, and then one for a guest powder room.

4. After that we have a luxury outdoor dining room table that we’re building for a phenomenal couple. They have the best outdoor entertainment space and yard so this will be the perfect addition. It’ll be huge and beautiful and functional all at the same time. Wait until you see this one!

5. Then we have another kitchen island we’re building for a family that just moved into their house. A butcher block countertop with countertop seating and then storage underneath on one side to hide the garbage cans and give awesome storage options.

6. We’re also working on an awesome basement remodel for a family that wants a big built in desk top with base and upper cabinets and then floating shelves to match. The cabinets are going to be this really sharp military-sage green with a dark stain on the desk and floating shelves. On a perpendicular wall then we’re building a long entertainment bookcase to go under the TV, which will get the matching green paint.

A terrific client of ours stopped into open house event we hosted last week and he bought 5 pieces of 2” thick spalted maple for a desk top he wants to make. After some deeper conversation, he decided to have us do all of the prep work for him and then he’ll do the sanding, staining, etc. to get it finished.

So we just wanted to showcase how stunning this spalted maple turned out! It finished at 1.5” thick, 7’ long, and 27.5” wide. This is going to make an incredible desk for his home office and we can’t wait to see the finished product

Now that Father’s Day officially came, we can show one of the projects we made for a good friend and her husband! We didn’t know the official name for this is called a “pizza peel” but now we do!

They have a home pizza oven and wanted something special for those delicious family cookouts, what an awesome idea. And we were honored to make it!

Maple wood, dark walnut natural tung oil finish, 14.5” wide, and just under 24” long: just big enough for the specialty pizza oven and just small enough to fit inside of their drawer. Win win!

Maybe we’ll get invited over for some homemade pizzas? 🍕

As we reflect back on the open house events we had this weekend, we each talked about how grateful we are for the community turnout and incredible support. Those two events have been the best since we opened two years ago and we’re just blown away by every aspect. So we wanted to share some of the highlights:

- There were more people that came through our doors each day than any event so far!

- Ready for this unique one? Tyler was helping a guy that had just moved to the area (Johnstown) all the way from Washington state. Tyler assumed that he heard about our event on Facebook. When asked though, he said that his wife uses ChatGPT to plan their Saturday adventures and puts in hobbies, interests, restaurants, places to see, etc. and for this week the AI software suggested visiting us at Timber Bear since we were having an event. Never heard of us before 🤯 So cool!

- We also had the nicest couple ever visit us from Pittsburgh and literally drove here just for our event! They bought a white oak mantle and some slabs, which they wanted planed down and cut to certain sizes. Such a terrific couple and they felt like friends after just spending an hour together. Thanks Keith and Linda!

- Most of us had our spouses and kids stop by at some point so it was a chaotic playground for a bit too, which is always entertaining.

- We loaded more lumber and slabs into smaller SUV’s and cars than we did into trucks? Maybe it was the sporadic rain or maybe it just shows how many resourceful people are out there! Just a random observation.

- We had a huge number of new people visit, which is always awesome! We still had plenty returning but we had way more new people this time, so we’ll take it!

We could keep listing highlights but we’ll stop there for now. We just want to express how much we appreciate everyone that showed up and offered support. This was hands down the best event weekend we’ve ever had and can’t wait for the next one later this summer! Much love to each and every one of you!

DAY TWO IS HERE!! This laser project is one of the top three most unique projects we’ve done so far! Super interesting and fun to work on.

A previous client came to us with a collection of 19 deer skulls and asked if we could cut each antler off, use the laser to engrave specific info, and then spray a glossy, protective coat on them.

The end goal is to eventually create a chandelier out of these antlers and he wanted to ability to look at them and know where each one came from. He already had each set of antlers labeled with the location, year, season, and weapon he shot them with but just written on a tag, so we just took that info and laser engraved on the relative info for all 38. And yes, the smell of burning bone was absolutely horrendous 😵‍💫 but totally worth it!

If we ever get pictures of the finished chandelier project, we’ll make sure to share! Either way, a fun project to learn and work through!
