Complex projects are not a problem. OEM parts can be expensive and even though the fit is, well l, it’s OEM so it fits, but the problems sometimes haven’t been addressed. This battered fiber optic cable funnel from a vibratory plow had been repaired for cracks several times. We reverse engineered it to create AutoCAD drawings of the component pieces, then cut them on our Komatsu CNC plasma system from material about twice as thick as the original. The original cable guide contour was laid out on the side plates then a 1/4” thick strip of steel welded in, then thicker gussets were formed to improve bolt and wrench clearance and welded to the outside of the plates to create a more durable part at a price competitive with OEM service parts. If you have a complex, expensive machine part, or just want to improve your equipment fleet, give us a call!

Today’s victory- A local business needed a quick solution to allow access for mobility impaired persons. This ramp was fabricated from 1/8” aluminum tread plate with 1-1/4” square aluminum handrails with 36” between them. 4” high strips of tread plate were sheared and welded on to prevent the small wheels on the front of wheelchairs from slipping over the edges. The curb is 5-1/2” high, giving us a shallow angle of about 3° over the 96” length for easier access. This simple, effective design allows a width of up to 40” for the same cost as the 36” width; wider available for an extra charge. Also available in painted steel. Message or contact me for more information about making your business accessible to everyone. 7O6 89 7 84 83.

Today’s episode- A vibratory plow is used to lay underground power, telephone and fiber optic data cables. Our local power company had a bearing to seize in the vibration unit on their plow, damaging the cast iron housing. New parts were ordered and after the third faulty replacement part came, it was determined that they were machined to the wrong dimensions. They have another backup plow, but this machine had been down several weeks. I was asked if I could help. Machining is my background, so I jumped at the chance. The damaged bearing bore was machined oversize in a milling machine to clean up the damaged surface. Then a piece of carbon steel tube was machined to create a repair sleeve to fit over the new bearing within 0.0001” of the outer bearing dimension and the oversized hole carefully measured to ensure the correct press fit dimension. The outer diameter of the steel sleeve was cut 0.0013” larger, then cut away from the excess material held in the lathe chuck with a parting tool. The bearing is slipped into the sleeve, then the assembly is pressed into place with bearing locking compound applied to the outer surface of the sleeve resulting in a reliable repair costing about 1/3 of a factory replacement part. We can repair other components using similar techniques, saving money and downtime. Message us to learn how we can help reduce your operating costs and downtime!

The challenge for this project is adding a rear spreader apron (lip) to this fine looking Western Star chassis with a Godwin bed. This bed has beautiful lines and a slanted tailgate so I wanted to build something that compliments its appearance. See the captions for a description of the work. This apron and the support steel is offered as a DIY kit to be welded in your own shop. Message for details or look up part numbers 706, 897, and 8483 to learn more!

From daylight until dark! Our friend and customer, Uniform Paving and Seal Coating brought this equipment trailer which was in need of new lumber decking on the ramps. Uniform Paving and Seal Coat LLC is dedicated to being on time, on budget, and on point with the quality of their services. When they needed this trailer on the job the next day, I ignored the clock and worked until just after midnight to add additional supports for the decking, machine new pivot pins for the ramps along with machining a replacement pin for a damaged hydraulic cylinder attachment point. A damaged deck access ladder was also removed and replaced with a safe and sturdy new one. The ramp attachment eyes were worn so alloy steel rings were cut using our Komatsu CNC Plasma system and welded to the existing eyes for cost containment. Decking was reinstalled using oversized, hi grade Torx™️ hardware for durability. The ramp stays that hold the ramps in the upright position for transit were replaced with longer ones to allow larger equipment to be loaded by stowing the ramps at a more open angle instead of vertically, adding value by making the trailer more useful for longer loads. Message us to learn how we can add value to your project! Part numbers 706, 897, and 8483 are the ones you’re looking for!

Special thanks to loyal customer Uniform Paving and Seal Coating for choosing us for the task of adding an extended spreader apron to three of their dump trucks. Special instructions were given that it can’t hang lower than the original apron to facilitate hooking up their equipment trailer. Challenge accepted! This is the first one, which I did this Saturday so they’re able to put it to work Monday morning. I’ll slip into the shop Sunday morning to paint it and undercoat the underside to prevent rust and corrosion.

Some recent projects- If it’s metal, I’ll take it! A sign for Blairsville’s Reece Farm and Heritage Center. Artwork supplied by customer and guest metalworker Glenn Hunt who cut the background and assembled it. I handled CAD work, CNC programming and cutting. A gate for a local customer featuring my first artistic picket work and an arch. I cut the arch from sheet steel in four pieces and welded them together into a boxed structure that matched the tubing used for the frame. Oak branch silhouettes were cut and used to fill the picket openings. A mother bear and her cubs fill the top section. My first ornamental handrails were a success. They’re made to be removable for easier moving of furniture. A hardwood cap will be added by the home builder to complete the look.
Formed steel pins are used to align machinery bolt holes during installation. The large aluminum boxes are pump station housings for subdivision water supply systems. I like the variety and we have the best customer relationships one could hope for, making new friends all the time!

This is a sweet 1970 Super Bee, powered by a 440” big block Mopar engine with EFI, aluminum cylinder heads, and a Comp Cams Thump’r camshaft. My favorite hot rods have three pedals in the floor, and this is one of them, with a classic Hurst pistol grip four-speed shifter. Congratulations to Johnathan Clark in seeing 14 years of work coming to fruition!

I recently made this custom, stainless steel fan shroud for customer Johnathan Clark’s gorgeous 1970 Super Bee. It mounts two 12” fans in a staggered configuration on a Griffin aluminum radiator. One is activated when the A/C is switched on, and both when maximum cooling is required. Temperatures while idling in traffic are stable at 187° with the A/C running, even with a powerful 440 cubic inch engine. While we don’t perform mechanic services (the radiator was brought in by itself) specialty parts like this one are something we’ll do. Custom work necessarily carries a custom price due to the “one-off” nature of the job, coupled with the design work, CAD drawing and CNC programming to produce a unique product, but satisfaction is guaranteed and we are quite reasonable!
