I’ve realized something about Brock Crafting.

Some of my favorite projects have never started with someone saying:

“Can you make me a staff?”
“Can you make me a shield?”
“Can you make me a sign?”

They started with a story.

A character someone has spent years playing.
A person they never want forgotten.
A world they’ve imagined but have never been able to hold.
A business they want people to step into and immediately FEEL.
A memory, idea, place, or piece of themselves that deserves to exist as something real.

So I’m opening something a little different:

You don’t have to know exactly what you want me to make.

Bring me the story.

Tell me about the character.
Tell me about the person.
Tell me about the world.
Tell me what happened there.
Tell me what it means to you.

And then we figure out what object should exist because of it.

Maybe it becomes a weathered staff that looks like it survived the adventures your character did.

Maybe it’s a shield, relic, memorial piece, wall artifact, display, sign, or something neither of us had thought of yet.

Wood. Resin. Engraving. Fire. Leather. Metal. Moss. Weathering. Hidden details. Lore.

Whatever the story calls for.

I don’t want to just make something with your name on it.

I want to make something that looks like it came out of your world and somehow ended up in ours.

🔥 Wyrmwood Respite 🌿

This one started with a piece of driftwood I found along the river.

But the goal was never just to make a cool-looking staff.

Sondal is a half-elf sorcerer with red dragon blood running through him—a character who has lived through fire, loss, revolution, and eventually found himself becoming a protector and keeper of knowledge.

So I wanted his staff to look like it had lived that story with him.

The upper end was burned and scarred by fire. Runes and markings were worked throughout the wood. The opposite end carries touches of green and nature, representing the softer influence that entered Sondal's life. The grip was my first real dive into building a stitched and cord-wrapped handle, and there were definitely some new techniques learned along the way.
Then I built a custom display stand so when the staff isn't being carried, it still feels like an artifact from Sondal's world rather than something simply leaning in a corner.

From finding the wood, learning the character, planning the details, experimenting with techniques, and finally watching everything come together, this project took me roughly two weeks from idea to finished piece.

And that's probably my favorite part of making pieces like this.

I get to figure out how to pull a piece of it into ours.

🍂 We’re heading back to Myriad! 🍂

Brock Crafting will be set up at the Fall Craft Show at Myriad Brewing Company – Newburgh on:

📅 Sunday, September 13th
🕛 12 PM – 5 PM

This one is especially meaningful to me because Myriad was where I did my very first craft fair last year.

A lot has changed since then.

Over the past year Brock Crafting has grown, evolved, and found more of its identity through handcrafted woodwork, resin art, laser engraving, custom commissions, and now even some fantasy/relic-style pieces.

I’m excited to come back to the place where this chapter really started and show how far things have come.

I’ll have a smaller, more curated 10x10 setup this time with a mix of:

🪵 Handcrafted wood pieces
🔥 Resin and wood artwork
📚 Bookmarks
🔑 Keychains
🥃 Whiskey/bar-style pieces
🛡️ Custom work examples
✨ And a look at some of the newer creative directions Brock Crafting has been exploring

There will also be live music, food trucks, fall drink specials, and other local artisans and makers throughout the day.

If you’re in the area, come out, say hi, grab a drink, support some local makers, and see what Brock Crafting has been working on.

I’m really looking forward to this one.
