Central Park is one of those places that reminds you what's possible when craft and vision come together on a grand scale. And the park isn’t just bikers and Shakespeare in the Park - its northern part includes a formal European garden and hilly, wooded sections that Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted designed to feel wild and rustic, even though you're never more than 1,200 feet from a Manhattan streetscape. The Victorian rustic style up there is something special — stone staircases, tucked-away waterfalls, winding paths, and rustic wooden furniture that feels right at home in the landscape. Joel’s latest blog post also reflects on how the park came into being in the 1850s — with vision, labor, and yes, plenty of corruption — but ultimately produced something of lasting beauty for everyone. It's a reminder that craft and care, whether in a hand-built fence or a landscaped park, create things that endure.
