As I reflect back on the 2025 growing season I thought that the first memory that’d come to mind was simply the flowers, but it’s actually our girl that joined us in October.
Last year I planned my biggest growing season yet before I even knew we’d have her. I definitely realized I bit off more than I could chew when I could barely get any work done without being toast for the rest of the week. I thankfully had some help from family and ended up with loads of beautiful flowers for fresh arrangements plus loads to dry and use this year.
Just when the gardens started to hit their peak in the summer we found out some tough news about our girl. The day we found out was also the day a double rainbow appeared over the new wildflower patch. It was a great reminder that everything would be okay, even with so many unknowns to figure out.
For the next couple months the garden became a bit of a pain to try to keep up and manage, but it also became a place where I could find some peace and beauty. The day before she joined us and before we started a month long stay at the hospital was the final harvest and garden clean up day. Since then I haven’t worked much with the flowers I collected throughout the year, but I’ve had the privilege of taking care of her instead.
This season will probably look very different as well with much less time devoted to growing, but the dried flowers will really have their time to shine.
She’ll always be the highlight of the 2025 season.
