Tightening your tracks a half inch adds about 3,000 pounds of tension. That's how little it takes to get this wrong.

And fall in Wisconsin is exactly when it goes wrong. Tracks that were perfect in the shop this morning are packed with mud by noon — and now they're too tight. Over-tightening costs you power, chews up rollers and idlers, and can tear the tracks themselves.

The fix is simple: adjust on the jobsite, not in the shop.
• Run the machine a short while on-site first, then adjust to match the actual packing conditions
• Re-check as the weather shifts through the day — packing conditions change with it
• Inspect the adjuster valve regularly; any sign of leakage means it's time for service
• Never try to force frozen tracks to move — you'll destroy them
