(Also, for you Sea Doo mechanics that wish to work on the 2000-2005 Sea Doo boats with the Mercury M-2 jet drives, our Mercury brand system is capable of diagnostics on these series of boats)

About our Version 3 Hardware Interface Box
CANDooPro has been planning the development of Marine diagnostics since 2014, when we started producing our Version 3 hardware interface box. All of our PWC systems sold since mid-2014 have been shipped with this hardware. This hardware has two key features that are different from the Version 2 hardware shipped between late 2011 and 2014:
Has special interface protocol for a number of Mercury engines. You need to use Version 3 hardware in order to be able to use the Mercury software.
The hardware is fully optically-isolated internally, which means that there is no electrical connection between the boat-side of the hardware and the computer side of the hardware. This has two key benefits, one is for safety, for example working on docks where using an extension cord with laptop might mean getting shocked if boat is at different voltage levels, the other benefit is related to electrical noise (like engine spark) causing issues with the USB circuits in your laptop.
The Version you have now is shown on the label on the back of the CANDooPro Interface box. If the label is not readable, in general you can determine which version you have by looking at the front of the box:
Version 1 hardware has a silver machine aluminum DESS post
Version 2 hardware has a black plastic DESS post, and when looking at the front of the box, the LED indicators read from left to right as follows, “USB Activity, Vehicle Activity, Power”
Version 3 hardware also has a black plastic DESS post, and when looking at the front of the box, the LED indicators read from left to right as follows, “Power, USB Activity, Vehicle Activity”
If you presently have Version 3 Hardware, you are good to go. If you have either Version 1 or 2 hardware, you will need Version 3 hardware to run the Mercury software. For the Special Spring Pricing, if you have Version 1 or 2 hardware, we will include the Version 3 hardware upgrade at no additional cost.
Marine Engine Support Details
General Overview- Our features compared to the factory diagnostic tools.
CANDooPro replicates the factory diagnostics tools, mainly for diagnostics, troubleshooting, and facilitating repair, just like we currently do for the personal watercraft diagnostics. Our tools only cover diagnostics for engines, not other boat sub-systems like controls. Also, we do not support rigging of brand new boats, for example, setting up Mercury engines to match with the controls, etc.
Please also note that we do not support replacing brand new ECU’s on Evinrude/Johnson ETEC models, and the latest Mercury G3 engines. This is because replacement ECU’s for these models are sold new without any programming internally, and need to be set up by the dealer with the proper programming. The software used for this is considered proprietary, and we do not support this function due to copyright laws.
Mercury Marine/Mercruiser
Mercury Marine presently only allows authorized dealers to purchase their factory diagnostic tools, and in order for dealers to work on all engines, they must actually purchase and use two separate systems, the Mercury Computer Diagnostic System (CDS), and the Mercury G3 Diagnostic System. The CDS system covers various engines dating back to the early 90’s up to many current models. Mercury developed the G3 system for their newest engines, and have been using this new version diagnostics for all new engine injection electronic control systems they have introduced since about 2010. The CANDooPro Diagnostic System for Mercury covers engine diagnostics for both the factory CDS system and the G3 system.
The dealer pricing for these two factory systems (CDS and G3) is about $4,000. The CANDooPro system is a fraction of the overall dealer price, and is much easier to use as it is one system that does both the CDS and G3 engines.

Yamaha
In 2012, Yamaha stopped selling their new YDIS 2 diagnostic system to anyone except authorized dealers, and dramatically increased the price, to $2,000 for the base system, and an annual $700 update fee. The cheap YDIS 1.33 systems you see sold cheaply on eBay are pirated illegal copies of the factory software, and only support models up to 2011. Our system supports Yamaha Outboards, Sport Boats, and Waverunners up to 2016 model year, which is all the models supported by the current version of YDIS 2 factory tool. (2017 model support expected in Summer 2017)
