Our latest featured project, Knights View Elementary School in Charlotte, puts concrete masonry to work inside and out. 🏫

Lightweight CMU is the primary product used throughout the building, while Kitchen Block serves key interior spaces and RidgeRock Retaining Walls support the surrounding site.

Meet 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝘁𝗼, a 𝗖𝘂𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝗡𝗖 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 who has been with Johnson Concrete Products for 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀.

Richard’s work includes operating the strapper, making sure the blocks are secure before they leave the plant. It’s a responsibility that takes care and attention, and Richard describes the work as both fun and challenging.

Beyond his own station, Richard plays an important role in 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝟮 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴. He helps monitor production, gives direction to the team, and pays close attention to production cycles and the cubing report. His leadership has helped support an increase in production cycles over the past year.

Richard’s 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 make a difference every day. He’s willing to help wherever needed and encourages those around him to share his commitment to the plant’s success.

For Richard, one of the best parts of working at Johnson Concrete Products is the opportunity to meet great people.

Outside of work, he enjoys getting together with friends and family, walking in the park, and watching TV.

Growing up in the Coachella Valley, Lance O'Donnell, FAIA, was surrounded by concrete masonry. From civic buildings to commercial spaces, it was a defining part of the region's built environment.​

That early exposure helped shape the way the o2 Architecture principal thinks about design today. For O'Donnell, CMU represents more than durability and performance. It reflects a connection to climate, culture and the architectural character of the desert.​
