Continued series of community introductions

Today’s series continues with Assistant Chief Andrew Silver

Ast. Chief Silver was born and raised right here in Chatham. After graduating from Chatham he went on to earn a mechanical engineering degree and 3rd assistant engineering license from SUNY Maritime in 1998.

He continued his education when he Studied Marine firefighting at Sealift Command and Sea Tow. Andrew traveled abroad for 3 years while in school.

Many may recognize or know Andy from the local hardware store, which he is an owner of. He started with the Chatham Hardware Inc in 1997 at the current Bank of Greene county site, which then moved the business across from the firehouse in 2005. Ast. Chief Silver joined the Ocean Fire Company #1 of the Chatham Fire department in 2006 where he became an officer in 2016 and promoted to Assistant Chief in 2023. Andrew now serves as Car 2 and will take over the helm as Chief in 2027.

In addition to his extensive higher education in engineering, Ast. Chief Silver holds numerous state certifications in firefighting and officer training.

Andrew resides in the Town of Kinderhook area of the Chatham fire District with his lovely wife of over 20 years, Amy and 3 awesome daughters, ages 13,17,20.
