Roofing and waterproofing work doesn't always happen under ideal conditions. That's where Ram QuickFlash® PMMA Membrane comes in.

This two-component PMMA membrane is designed for fast curing and rapid weatherability, becoming rainproof and walkable in approximately 30 minutes. Its UV stability also allows it to remain exposed as a waterproof coating.

550 Madison Avenue.

Manhattanites know it as the AT&T or Sony Building and it has undergone a massive transformation, earning LEED Platinum and WELL Gold certifications while nearly doubling its public garden to create the half-acre 550 Garden.

And behind all that greenery and glass? Serious waterproofing.

The Barrett Company was proud to play a role in its redevelopment, supplying the Black Pearl Waterproofing System to help protect the building and support the complex roof and garden assemblies.

The project even incorporates a rainwater collection system that redirects approximately 93,000 gallons of water annually to irrigate the public park.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C., is more than a library.

Designed by renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and named for one of the most influential figures in American history, the building has long been a place for learning, ideas, and community.

A major renovation preserved the significance of the original structure while transforming it into a modern civic destination with new spaces for education, events, gathering, and public life.

And above it all, a rooftop terrace and green roof add another layer to the experience.

For this highly visible project, its green roof system used Barrett's RamTough 250 Hot Fluid Applied Asphalt Waterproofing System, helping protect the building while supporting the rooftop's vegetation and stormwater management goals.

Good architecture is about how a building looks, and how it performs once it's exposed to the real world.

Rain. Wind. Temperature swings. Snow. Scorching heat. Years of use.

The roof plays a big part in that performance.

Water management, drainage, durability, material selection, and long-term performance all need to be considered as part of the design, not after the fact.

She's been standing in New York Harbor for 140 years. The fortification beneath her has been there even longer.

When Fort Wood, the historic star-shaped fort at the base of the Statue of Liberty, needed waterproofing as part of a 2022 rehabilitation project, it wasn't the place to cut corners.

Barrett's Black Pearl® Cold-Applied Waterproofing Membrane and Ram QuikFlash® PMMA Flashing System were selected to help protect approximately 4,000 square feet of historic stone from water infiltration.

No flashy new construction. No room for do-overs. Just a historic structure, some seriously unforgiving conditions, and waterproofing that needed to do its job.

It’s one of Chicago’s most iconic buildings. Now it has a green roof with a view.

When the base of Willis Tower was transformed into Catalog, a five-level destination for dining, retail, and entertainment, the project team also created a large amenity deck to bring green space into the heart of the city.

This project incorporated a roofing system designed to stand up to the demands of a massive vegetative roof. The construction team turned to Barrett's RamTough 250 with fabric reinforcement to help create a durable, airtight waterproofing system, because when you’re putting a garden on a world-famous building, you need a sound waterproofing strategy. 🌱
