We welcomed Lt. Gen. Thomas K. Hensley, commander, Sixteenth Air Force; commander, Air Forces Cyber; commander, Joint Force Headquarters-Cyber (Air Force), and fellow members of the Sixteenth Air Force/Air Forces Cyber and the United States Space Force for a visit to our department on April 16, 2026. Hensley addressed the students in Dr. Shreyas Kumar’s senior capstone design class. Teams led by students Daniel Choi and Noah Mustoe presented their capstone projects. Choi’s team project was sponsored by the 16th Air Force and involved automating their security information and event management system. Mustoe’s team built on the work of a team from last semester to develop a spacecraft cyber defense system for the United States Space Force.
Student Connor Davis and team also presented the cybersecurity platform capturetheflag.ai — a platform that originated in the AGGIES Lab. Capturetheflag.ai provides hands-on cybersecurity training for students. The team suggested that they can build a secure version of the platform as per the security specifications of the 16th Air Force as a potential fall capstone project.
This visit highlights collaborations made possible by the Industry Capstone Program. Our Industry Capstone program enables companies to sponsor teams of seniors working in areas such as AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, data science, robotics and software systems as they develop real-world solutions. Sponsors help students strengthen practical skills in design, implementation, teamwork, communication and deployment.
