How do I orient my living / dining room?

I just moved into a new apartment about a month ago. I’ve been having a hard time figuring out how to orient everything, and I would really appreciate any helpful advice! I am open to anything.

I’m having two main issues: (1) how to orient the living room so that it feels like a coherent and comfy space, and (2) how to squeeze a small dining area behind the couch and next to the kitchen / counter.

For some context, the couch is 7 ft long. The tape measurer in the photo is extended by 10 ft. The floors are bamboo. I’m likely going to mount the tv. Also, most of these photos were taken in 0.5x zoom, so they make the space look a bit larger than in reality.

(1) I feel like this is the only place where a couch and TV will fit, right? I’m thinking if I get a big rug to pull the couch and TV together it’ll make that space feel more coherent (and a coffee table ofc). I’m thinking a muted red / terracotta Persian or Turkish style (let me know if you think another style would look better!) However, I’m not really sure what size or how to place the rug. Since the couch is resting against the wall, would the rug also need to touch the wall? Should I pull the couch off the wall a little? The problem with that is then there’s not much space between the couch and the kitchen counter. How far should the rug extend out from the couch on the front and exposed side? Should the rug go underneath the TV console or stop right before it?

(2) I’m not sure whether I should try to fit a dining table into this space (under the pendant lamp) at all, but the space feels pretty empty without it. If I were to get something, I was thinking maybe a narrow table to rest under the windows, and a bench for seating, so I can push it under the table to conserve space. Does that sound like that a good idea, or do you have any other suggestions?

Bedroom remodel, Louisville, KY

Took a week to remodel the bedroom. Added wainscotting, picture rail, completely rebuilt the fireplace from scratch (new tile, fireplace, and mantle were from antique stores, had to restore them both), then color-saturated everything in SE "Naval."

Update: Been in Brussels for 8 Months Now

Hey all, I (26M) moved to Brussels 8 months ago on an international assignment since the company I work for has an office here. I posted asking for some help, mainly because it's only until the end of this August so I wanted to make it nicer but not invest too much in it.

Here's the result and what changed:

* Moved some of the already existing furniture around
* Bought 2 new Kallax pieces, one to divide the kitchen from the living, the other to use as a console close to the sofa
* Added a couple of plants
* Picked some colorful blankets for the sofa with some yellow pillows
* Added a couple of ball lights with RGB bulbs inside to set the mood for the evenings
* Added some warm lights to the stairs
* Picked up a small wooden piece for the bathroom to put some products on
* Got some funky pieces from Temu for the bathrooms

I haven't done anything to the 2 bedrooms, as I only sleep there (I just got a 3$ rgb light for when I read at night)

I will bring the pieces of furniture, the plants, and some of the other accessories that I bought with me when I'll move out.

If I were to stay for longer, I would have invested in more plants, a couple pieces more and more art. I would have also filled up the walls more and maybe painted a different color, but oh well.....

What do you think? Anything you'd have done differently?

What am I missing? What can I add to make this space seem more complete? I’m thinking a rug? Maybe change the chandelier?...

Torn about floor color

Would like to gather thoughts on what floor color to finalize for our home. Personal opinion is that the light floor looks better on the lower level (see kitchen) whereas the dark floor looks cozier on the upper level (see bedroom and bathroom). My contractor is suggesting doing a single color on both floors. Would like some advice on which of these two options to choose from.

Honey Oak + LVP Stairs: Does this 'Antler Trail Oak' work for a modern contrast?

We're looking to replace the carpet on our stairs and upstairs with LVP, but we have existing real honey oak floors on our main level (see first pic).

We know we won't find an LVP that's a perfect match, and honestly, we think having the whole house in honey oak might be a bit overwhelming. So, we're considering 'Antler Trail Oak' LifeProof LVP (samples shown in pic 2 & 3 next to some other LVP options).

Our goal is to pick a complementary, rather than matching, floor that adds some contrast and a slightly more modern feel to the upper levels. Overall, we are trying to go for a warm, homey aesthetic. Might do a runner on the stairs and will very likely add area rugs in the bedrooms.

What do you think? Does the 'Antler Trail Oak' work with our honey oak, or is the contrast too stark and make the place feel too cold?
