A little Japanese craftsmanship just landed at Wade Hardware.
For the folks who appreciate a tool that’s as much craftsmanship as it is hardware, take a look at these beauties:
Yosh*taka Bench Chisel (Oire Nomi) — made in Banshu Miki, Japan, a region famous for traditional forged edged tools. Yosh*taka chisels use White Paper steel laminated to soft iron, with Japanese red-oak handles. They’re handmade, so each one has a little character of its own.
Kisaku Kanna — a traditional Japanese smoothing plane made by master craftsman Seisuke Mizuno of the Mizuno Kanna Factory in Echigo Yoita, Niigata. Mizuno is a fourth-generation plane maker, began learning the trade at age 15, and was officially certified as a Traditional Craftsman in 2001. His family’s plane-making roots stretch back to the early 1900s.
Kagura Ko-Kanna — the smaller plane pictured here, also crafted by Seisuke Mizuno. It uses Togo steel, traditionally suited for harder woods, paired with wrought iron and a Japanese white-oak body.
And unlike the Western planes most of us grew up with, a Japanese kanna is pulled toward you instead of pushed away — allowing for incredibly thin, smooth shavings when properly tuned.
Basically: old-school Japanese woodworking craftsmanship sitting right here in an old-school Oregon hardware store. We think they fit in pretty nicely.

A LITTLE FRENCH CUTLERY HAS FOUND ITS WAY TO WADE HARDWARE!
We’re mighty excited to now be carrying Opinel Knives.

We’ve brought in the classic Opinel No. 6 and the big ol’ Opinel No. 12, plus natural sharpening stones in both small and large sizes.
Opinel knives have been around since 1890, which means they’ve had well over a century to figure out how to make a good pocket knife. Simple. Useful. Handsome. No batteries, apps, or Bluetooth required.
And when your trusty blade starts getting a little more “butter knife” than “pocket knife,” give it a few passes on one of our natural sharpening stones and put that edge back where it belongs.
AND… just in time for mushroom season in the PNW the Opinel Mushroom Knife!
This clever little foraging knife has a curved blade for cutting mushroom stems and a boar-bristle brush right on the handle for brushing away dirt before your prized forest treasure ever reaches the kitchen.
Basically, it’s a fancy little mushroom-hunting sidekick. And frankly, we think it’s pretty darn cool.
Come take a look at the new Opinel goods at Wade Hardware; where we appreciate a good tool, a sharp blade, and wandering around the Oregon woods looking for dinner.

Well, apparently Wade Hardware is now offering wildlife encounters.
Caught something moving out of the corner of my eye and thought, “There is NO way that’s a lizard in here.” So naturally, I ignored it… until I saw it AGAIN a little while later.
This time I sprang into highly trained hardware-store-lizard-rescue mode: clear bucket over the top, carefully slid a piece of cardboard underneath, and voilà one tiny reptile safely contained.
My coworker gave him a walk one block east to 1st Street and released him back into the wild, where he can continue doing whatever suspicious little lizard business brought him into the hardware store in the first place.
We’ve decided to call him Wade.
Best guess is he’s either a Common Fence Lizard or a juvenile Western Crocodile Lizard. Either way, he came in, browsed for a bit, and left without buying a single thing, the nerve!!

Stop by, you never know what you will find.

Bathroom mostly done. Because apparently once everyone else finishes their part, that’s when my part begins.
I really didn’t want to lose the original baseboards, but they were looking every bit as tired as I felt. So I gave them some love with Howard Restor-A-Finish and WOW they came back beautifully without losing all that old-house character.
New floor ✔
Original baseboards saved ✔
Project finally finished-ish ✔
My sanity… questionable. ?
I’m so happy with how it turned out. Sometimes the old stuff just needs a little help, not a trip to the dumpster. ❤️

Apparently the Gorilla Dump Cart is so handy, it may not survive your next family BBQ
I brought mine along to haul stuff around, and my sister thought it was so cool that she promptly claimed it for herself and said: “You’re not getting this back.”
So… I guess I need another one.
These carts are great for hauling yard debris, firewood, gardening supplies, coolers, BBQ gear—or apparently becoming your sister’s newest favorite possession.

Stop by Wade Hardware and grab a Gorilla Dump Cart of your own.
