Did you know that the Hoosier Cave Fish species can only be found in southern Indiana? North of the Ohio River and south of the East Fork Whit River.

You can find the Hoosier Cave Fish along the underground river of the Deep Darkness!

PLUS, we have 2 new DD guides ready to take you on your next adventure! Meet Mack and Colin! They may be new to Deep Darkness but have been guiding for a few years and love going on our staff cave trips.

Deep Darkness Training Day!!!!!
DD Guide Trainer, Sarah, took Mack and Colin into the cave yesterday to show them the different routes and to talk safety points.

And you can see our Maintenance/Facilities Manager in the background being silly - he was there to help us in and out of the 93’ ladder!!

Our Last Deep Darkness trip, we counted 9 bats in the entrance room!!! Definitely the most ever seen there since the start of these trips in 2015

An impromptu staff cave trip turned into a bat count!!
36 tricolored bats were counted just beyond the boat turnaround, from the Junction Room to Joy’s Gulp. The vast majority of the bats were seen between the Junction and Balcony Rooms.
Interpretive Staff Manager, Sarah, says that it’s definitely the most bats she’s ever seen back there in her 10 years of doing these trips!!

Since White Nose Syndrome was introduced to the US it has decimated the bat population all across the country, Indiana and Binkley Cave included.
Perhaps this is a good sign that the bats are starting to make a sloooow recovery!
