Don't be fooled by the term "low maintenance" when considering purchasing vinyl impact windows. Ignoring annual, mandatory maintenance of your vinyl windows will void your warranty and leave you holding the bag for replacement costs. Most vinyl windows have an expected life of 7-10 years in the south, so if you plan on keeping your home or passing it on to family, aluminum framed windows are the better choice over vinyl. Otherwise, you'll be buying new windows at least twice before your mortgage is paid off. And who knows how much replacement windows will cost 10 years from now?

Just received another phone call from a homeowner who just had impact windows installed and wanted to know if we wanted to buy his old shutters. I told him to keep them to protect is expensive windows. It seems that the window salesperson had him convinced that his new window were unbreakable.

Please don't fall for this myth. The simple truth is "If it's made from glass, it's gonna' break!" In fact, impact windows are DESIGNED TO BREAK when struck but not blow out of their frames. By telling you that you no longer need shutters, the window company is simply looking for return business because they KNOW that the windows will break and need to be replaced if they aren't protected. Another professional-looking job done by a retired Viet Nam veteran. We couldn't be more proud of the work done on this project. Just received ANOTHER CALL from a homeowner that has had new impact windows installed and wanted to know what to do with his old metal shutters. I told him to keep them for hurricane season to protect his new window investment. His new, overpriced windows will still break, still leak and and still need to be replaced when they get hit by flying debris. I recommended that he view any online video of "impact window testing" to see what's going to happen to his new windows during a hurricane. I also told him that I was sorry that his windows had been misrepresented to him as "hurricane proof" and that he wasn't the first person to be misled by window salespeople and had gotten duped into spending tens of thousands of dollars on windows that will still break. If he has to spend $200 to get his shutters put up before a storm, he'll still be money ahead by not having to replace just ONE brokwn window. Sad, but true.
