You ran the event. Now comes the part nobody tells you about: writing the report. 📝

Here's some simple tips to turn your cleanup data into something a sponsor, boss, or city council will actually pay attention to.

Collect 3 numbers minimum - the weight of your litter, the number of volunteers, and the area covered.
Lead with impact, not activity - your results will be better received when stating actual results such as pounds of litter picked up or specifics of some unusual items like tires, mattresses, or other large/bulky items.
Photograph! your event - a before/after photo or even just an ending photo with the bags of litter collected and your volunteers smiling does way more than just explaining what you accomplished. Show it off!

There is an estimated 35 billion pieces of litter currently along America's roadways, waterways, and coastal areas.

And while there has been a 34% overall decline in litter in the last 5 years, there has also been a 36% increase in vehicle debris litter such as tires, bumpers, and parts.

Your volunteers spent their time picking up litter with you. Here's how to make sure they know it mattered.

Three simple ways to recognize your cleanup crew - no budget required!

1. Post a photo and tag them. A public shout out costs nothing and means everything! With their permission, of course.
2. Send a personalized message. Within 24 hours of your cleanup, send a message directly to your volunteers individually to recognize them for their contributions.
3. Offer appreciation gifts. Give your volunteers things like shirts, vests, grabbers, and other reusable supplies! The possibilities are endless.
