Looks like we have another burnt shore power cord. This one was a 50amp 125/250V that was not plugged in all the way and fell out at one point. Bad contact leads to increased resistance and excessive heat. Always secure and lock your shorepower chords correctly. This was a brand new chord they burnt the neutral pin on. Notice how it melted the outlet.

Just a heads up if your boat is a Kapalina Marina. That's not good.

Do you guys smell something burning?

In this instance both the chord and receptical outlet were burnt and needed to be replaced. Corrosion and loose contact on the plug blades increases resistance. More resistance =heat and more heat=fire.

Solar installs always have a lot of considerations to keep in mind when choosing locations. To combat voltage drop from partial shading we went with separate charge controller to keep the amps flowing.

If you're noticing some electrical issues, be sure to check your wiring! Here is a little chemistry.

Copper reacts with things in the environment. Oxygen makes oxides which are generally black or reddish, and sulfur & chlorine makes sulfides, sulfates and chlorides which are generally green. All of these inhibit the flow of electrons and cause resistance and voltage drop in the circuit.

Tinned wire and good heat shrink (with adhesive lining) on the lugs helps to prevent these problems.
